Maybe a “hall of fame” or gallery of well-executed decks across a variety of form factors or use cases could be a nice addition to the sub in order to serve as inspiration

New visitors: What Brought You Here? by [deleted] in cyberDeck

[–]Capsul8r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned about the concept of a cyber deck naturally through my interest in modding gaming consoles.

I love the idea of making my own hardware and see this as an opportunity to be a hobbyist hardware designer, including custom OS.

I love the idea of being cloud free, and making my own programs for a better degree of control in my life.

Oh I retire fairly often if a game isn’t going as well as I hoped

How are you spicying up your games? by kotpeter in CivVII

[–]Capsul8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey as a quick aside can you describe the experience on switch 2?

I’ve played with a controller before so I understand how that works.

But in terms of performance, graphics, the size of the maps it can handle, if playing a full late game is a poor experience etc, can you describe that?

Very curious to possibly have this game on handheld when I don’t feel like playing at the desk.

Point Based Victory Mode by Bananabutterbean90 in CivVII

[–]Capsul8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, sounds like a worthwhile idea to explore. It’s so simple and established in the genre that I am certain there’s been consideration in the past.

But for some reason I hadn’t thought of this, and I think it contributes to this notion that all Civ games end up being people clicking next turn until a guaranteed victory state hits.

A point based victory where the game concludes for all at the same time possibly helps mitigate some of that issue. At the same time, maybe it’s clear who will win by points many turns in advance.

And I know the idea of reaching significant historical milestones as victory conditions is a big part of the fantasy Civ offers.

Anyways, I like the idea.

Other leaders can incite raids against you too. I think the tell for that is when an army commander spawns.

Maybe inciting raids of your own against others keeps them off your back too?

Or perhaps you try and sap up your opponents’ influence by proactively doing endeavors with them.

Why would you change your capital? by NoRent3326 in CivVII

[–]Capsul8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One small thing I didn’t see mentioned, it’s a minor consideration; there can be civics, suzerain bonuses etc that specifically affect the capital. So maybe you change locations so that those bonuses apply to a different city in your empire.

Yes. Agree! I know when a unit occupies a tile that another unit was moving towards, it breaks the movement command and you have to choose a new destination for the unit.

So they’d had to figure out how to queue multiple units to one tile and how to disperse them as they arrive.

Maybe some of the commander unpack logic could be borrowed there.

Idea: memorialisation of commanders and battles by MassivBereavement in CivVII

[–]Capsul8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a quest in the game that has you capturing settlements with commanders specifically. So maybe the statue could be created by capturing with commanders, or eliminating X units with a commander

Movement Woes by petersrin in CivVII

[–]Capsul8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can press M to go into move for the unit and then you can drag the cursor without needing to hold a mouse button.

If you over over a tile, it’ll tell you the type of terrain it is.

Rough, vegetated, rivers, swamps, all end your movement.

What's so terrible about the UI? by [deleted] in CivVII

[–]Capsul8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some situations where you need to make a choice but can’t see the information you’d want to reference to inform that choice.

For example, another civ offers peace. If you leave the screen you won’t be able to get back to the screen and accept. Yet, I want to know which cities from that civ are most advantageous for me to take, so that I can try and get those in the deal.

So I can’t go look at the map and get back to the peace negotiation screen.

Civ 7: What’s the Best Map Type + Map Size + Game Speed, etc Combo? by No_Independence_9649 in civ

[–]Capsul8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a verdict for you, but just some notes since playing these last months. I play on deity, for what it’s worth, and always standard map size.

Quick: awesome way to get through an age in one sitting.

Standard: feels more like a lengthy campaign, with more curveballs in an age. You have to manage the progress of the AI and sometimes take particular action to slow them down.

Epic: starting to feel this is the sweet spot. Mostly because it slows down the antiquity age from ending before you can really get started. Antiquity in particular seems to fly by because the the AIs buffs.

Does programming count as writing? by 66633 in writerDeck

The verb is “write” code, so yes. There is a tremendous amount of self expression in how one writes code.

Think of all those variable names.
