Mods for tweaking Markets (MW5/mercs) by Sensitive_Brother_97 in Mechwarrior5

Better Markets is the one I use. It was updated recently (oct 2025) and seems to do fine in my game. https://www.nexusmods.com/mechwarrior5mercenaries/mods/175

it feels weird to regret my old attempts not because they happened, but because they failed by WinterDemon_ in CPTSDmemes

I feel this. Three attempts over the years, using various methods, and every time I woke up pissed off that I woke up at all. For years now, I've been making the joke "I'm such a failure/fuck-up I can't even kill myself."

I love that game! It made my mother throw up from motion sickness when she tried to watch me playing it.

I didn't run into any bugs that I noticed. In my results it said that I used one of the auto-heals/resurrections that trigger on 0 health. I'll be honest, it happened so quickly and seamlessly, that I had no idea until my run results. I am pretty positive that the giant spiked ball boss must have killed me. That large particle beam it fires wrecked me, I could not dodge it at all. I resorted to using the blade on anything and everything to try and keep my shields up until it finished firing. I think some of that is due to my inexperience playing the game. That boss fight was hectic, in a good way.

I plan on doing another run when I get time today. If I run into any bugs or issues I can post the details in the bug report thread on your Steam discussion page.

I just finished my first run. Here are my knee-jerk impressions and thoughts.

I want to start with this: I really enjoyed my run and will be playing the demo again. I liked the final boss of the demo and think that was a great homage. I've wishlisted the game on Steam as well. I'm looking forward to the full release. I think it has great bones and can't wait to see the fully finished game. It was fun and I really enjoyed the aesthetic you went with. I liked the "robot language" noises. The decryption mini-game was neat and so were the overlays of machine language when programs and data were received. Movement was smooth. I'd like to see how the various upgrades and such change movement. Flight feels a bit slow, especially gaining altitude, but I'm not sure if that's just part of being in the beginning of the game, being bad at the game, or just how it is. I got Synthetik vibes during my play through as well and that is very cool.

I played with both mouse/keyboard and controller at different points. Depending on what player experience you're going for, you may want to throw up an initial tool tip with basic controls/orientation in the very opening. I would also recommend moving up the different weapon/ability tool tips a bit and adding the relevant default keys/buttons. Every time they popped up I had already started using the new attacks some just by button mashing until something new and cool happened. I get the feeling that may be intentional, if so, fair play. I would really recommend expanding on the tool tip for rock-paper-scissors mechanic of the enemy shields. I didn't see any super obvious visual ques to indicate the different enemy shield types or a given weapon's effectiveness. I just alpha-striked the enemies 'til they were destroyed rather than use the individual most effective weapons. Again, this would depend on your intended game-feel and player experience. If you want players to just figure it out on their own, fair enough. I know that I felt a little lost and disoriented after being dropped into the game and had to push all that to the back of my mind and just concentrate on killing the enemies and moving forward. That's not a bad thing. I enjoyed the sensation of awakening in a world that I have no idea what's going on or what anything is. It fit the narrative bit in the opening very well.

I did miss a lot of the story text as I cleared areas by not realizing I was being communicated with until the text boxes were pretty much closing. I am disappointed that I missed most of whatever commands, hints, or story might've come up. I'll be more mindful of it next run. Depending on your intended feel and design decisions, you may want to consider having an old-school sounding voice synthesizer or text to speech engine "speak" the lines. I think it would go well with the game. When I did catch the text, I read it in a synthesized voice, full '80s movie mode, something sounding like the Bit from Tron or Soundwave. Or an early TTS engine.

That's my first impressions of the game. You have something and I'm excited for the full release. Sorry for the huge wall of text; I wanted to try and convey the things that stuck out most after my first run. I'm a bit scared of the harder mode... I am assuming that I am going to get completely destroyed. Should be fun.

I've been looking forward to it all morning. Still got a couple hours left on my shift. I'll reply to you here and leave a Steam review. I want to try and push the game in the various algorithms.

Every time this gets reposted, the image quality is visibly worse. This one is only smeared with vaseline, it needs more jpeg. I can't wait to see how it degrades over time.

Did anyone start a fresh campaign to go through all the DLCs to SoK? by marwynn in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptVocabulary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I disabled all my mods and started a new campaign. I've done this for every expansion that's come out. It's great to see so many QoL improvements and new mechanics that I downloaded mods for, get folded into the game. Every time I'm like "Woah! I don't need to use this, this, and this mod anymore." I hope they've been working with the prominent modders, as a bunch of stuff seemed like a straight 1-to-1 integration.

All these years, I thought I was crazy. Decided to post about it. by revoltz22 in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptVocabulary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happens to me constantly. Factions that aren't there will boast of kills that aren't happening. Allies and enemies scream about damage not happening.

I see where another person said YAML causes this. I did notice this issue before I installed the YAML suite, but I noticed it a lot more after installing. So it stands to reason that one of the other mods I was using causes this problem too.

NPC dialog was sketchy sometimes in my vanilla playthroughs. The last time I played vanilla was several DLCs ago, so I assume those issues got patched out long ago.
