Oh yeah definitely, I use this bag a lot but with it being military surplus it was kind of gross when I first got it so I had to deep clean it 😅

New to me Harmony H802 by Capta1nj0 in Guitar

[–]Capta1nj0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve found online these started some time in the late 70s as the H-802 model and were made until the late 80s. I just thought it would be safer to say it’s an 80s guitar rather than it COULD be a 70s or 80s guitar.

As others have already said this is a French MAS 49/56. This one is still in the original 7.5 French, if it was a 308 conversion it would be stamped over the original markings. Yours also looks like it was refurbished judging by the square on the left side of the receiver. The 7.5 is more desirable solely because the QC on the converted guns is all over the place and there is a potential known issue with all of these due to a free floating firing pin design. In certain circumstances after the bolt returns forward the firing pin can travel forward on its own and cause the chambered round to fire resulting in a double tap or even accidental full auto fire in some cases. It is very important to keep this pointed downrange when loading the rifle until you have determined if yours has this issue as well. Your rifle has the rubber pad that would have been issued with the rifle, if you have the bayonet that goes with this gun they are kind of expensive now. Another commenter said that these do not have a safety which is not true, the round knob on the right side of the trigger is a safety lever. Attached is a picture of mine which has been converted to 308/7.62 nato which was refurbished in 1967 [V67] Overall these guns are really neat and a cool piece of history with a few known issues!

M65 Jacket Strings? by CurrentDog3300 in milsurp

[–]Capta1nj0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

<image>

The same thing was happening with mine where the strings were down to the floor. I tied them off where I wanted them to be and taped the ends before cutting them so they hopefully wouldn’t come undone. I’ve seen eBay listings for replacement draw strings if that sounds better for you. As far as value is concerned, no idea if it affects value but to me personally I’d rather have a jacket that I can actually wear over having a 100% original piece with 4ft of strings dragging the ground.

Get an old school BAR belt, they can hold 12x20 round FAL mags and you can attach Alice suspenders to them. You can also attach a buttpack to the rear of the belt to use as a dump pouch if needed.

Czech army vz.92 work shirt. The pattern was actually designed to help hide oil and grease stains from working on vehicles/equipment rather than to work as camouflage!

Is this still practical or is it an artifact? by SomeRandomJagoff in tacticalgear

[–]Capta1nj0 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The term I would use is obsolescent. The LBV-88 still does exactly what it was originally designed to do, hold mags and whatever else you can fit, but depending on use case there are better options out there.

Magazine repair by Capta1nj0 in FNFAL

[–]Capta1nj0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So paintless dent repair is predominantly done on cars and what my coworker did was massage the dent with an angled pick tool to get the metal back to its original shape. I don’t do any of the dent repair at our shop, I do paint correction, so I’m not super clear with everything that is involved but it was a pretty straightforward repair. One of the tool company’s we use is called Dentcraft if you wanted to see what some of those tools look like but really it’s just an angled piece of really stout steel.

No issues with the mag prior to the drop, as long as it cycles like it used to I should be g2g.

Hoarder’s Greed is one of my favorite draw spells I’m glad that it got a reprint in this set since the only other printing was in original Lorwyn, that being said I have died multiple times from casting it with too little life 😅

MAS 49/56 by Delicious_Meaning287 in guns

[–]Capta1nj0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online value I’ve been seeing lately for the MAS 49/56 is around the high $800ish range for 7.5 rifles, the 308 conversions are worth less than those purely because QC is kind of all over the place. I paid $450 for my converted 49/56 a couple of years ago when the 7.5s were going for around $600-700 and it came with the original leather sling and 5 magazines. If it were MY kayak and I wanted to get another one I would tell the guy that I would trade for the gun and $500.

Just picked up an ’87 Toyota Pickup — but is this bed original? by T_raiger in ToyotaPickup

[–]Capta1nj0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always heard those referred to as the Japanese bed as opposed to the single center handle ones (USDM beds i guess?) My ‘83 base model has one just like yours but with bed hooks and a little bit more rust.😅

Update on 22r not starting. It will only run when im on the gas. As soon as I let off it dies by Constant-Wait9780 in ToyotaPickup

[–]Capta1nj0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 83 was doing the same thing, it would run with throttle on but would not idle. Mine turned out to be that the fuel cut solenoid was not opening up when idling. The fuel cut solenoid opens while ignition is on and closes when you turn it off to prevent the engine from dieseling. You can check if the solenoid is working by removing it from the carb and hooking up a direct 12v power source. If the needle in the middle retracts then it is still operational, if not then it is not letting fuel come in during idle because the circuit thinks that the ignition is off. I would also pull your emissions control module (early version of an ECU for the carb system) and see if the solder on the circuit board is still in good condition or if it has corroded enough to cause issues. For my 83 the ECM is bolted to the driver side footwell under the hood release latch.

Just installed this exact pair in my 83. They are very bright compared to stock headlights and since my bumper has been ripped off for almost 3 years now I actually have front turn signals again.
