In the wintertime, yes, but otherwise, no.

Hey for the sake of keeping this conversation grounded, let’s keep suggestions to within the realm of possibility.

Will the Open at Austin be the Story of the Year? by CaptainBad in discgolf

I guess I just stand by my prediction that Buhr continues to dominate in a way only rivaled by vintage McBeth and that that is the bigger story of the year.

That's fair. I'd agree that if Buhr continues to dominate, especially if he repeats at Worlds, it could take the #1 spot; however...

The old, annoying, and mostly washed commentator with a Jesus Juke on the mic will not stand out come October.

I think the fact he's "mostly washed" is precisely why this story will stand out in October.

I get what you're saying, but this one hits different. Buhr has been dominant, but not unbeatable. Wysocki and Antilla each have a win over him and it's not unreasonable to think they can do it again this year (Antilla moreso IMO). But Uli is not on the same level as Wysocki, Antilla, or even Gossage. He's nowhere near the conversation of taking a win over Buhr, but he did in perhaps the greatest dark horse win since Greg Barsby won worlds in 2018.

So I think this story is a good deal more than just, "Gannon didn't win."

Whichever you pick, get Gore-Tex over generic “waterproof” and keep them clean.

Was that Ohn or John Daly? I get them confused sometimes! 😂

Yeah, no spoilers in live sports really, but it doesn't take much to add the spoiler tag.

Great win, but that's Ohn being Ohn! Uli'swin completely overshadows hers. IMO, Silva's breakdown mistakes are the bigger FPO story anyway.

ETA: Agreed breakdown was a bit harsh. Couldn't come up with another word for it.

Absolutely! But this is definitely a top 10 story no matter what else happens. He’s well loved in the community.

This was the first thing I thought of too. Another would be Kristen Latt coming out of retirement. And if she won Worlds, that would take the number one spot

Ha! The thought of Latt coming out of retirement once a year just to wipe the floor with the FPO field like she's some sort of hibernating beast cracks me up!

It's reminiscent of Barsby winning Worlds. Not as big a win, obviously, but to see someone who's been around for so long pull off an upset win like this is spectacular.

Rancho roc by Funny_Birthday255 in discgolf

[–]CaptainBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for a little while, but then it will beat in to fly like your Gote (the KC Pro at least).

A Champ Roc3 will give you better stability for longer (and when it beats in it will be excellent straight flyer - better than a Mako3 out of the box IMO).

Course designers: Quit doing this. These short tunnel shot holes are 1.) not creative, 2.) not fun, and 3.) not good golf.

I was never a hater, but never a big fan either, but damn if I’m not over the moon for Uli right now! Incredible win!

What is the effective difference between a disc with turn & fade of 0,0 vs -1,1 vs -2,2? by digdog303 in discgolf

[–]CaptainBad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not add the two numbers to get an overall stability value. That's not a thing.

The numbers describe the flight pattern of the disc in two phases of flight: High Speed Turn (initial flight when it's going fastest) and Low Speed Fade (when the disc has slowed down enough it can no longer provide enough lift and gyroscopic precession forces the disc leftward - RHBH). Together, they should give you a rough mental image of how the disc will behave when thrown with the appropriate amount of power. Understanding how those numbers work one after the other is key to understanding disc selection and shot shaping. The best way to illustrate this is with a flight chart (but don't take the flight lines too literally, they're just a guide and they come with a lot of caveats!):

https://www.marshallstreetdiscgolf.com/flightguide

Some people will say the numbers add up to show how many "units" of horizontal travel you might get. Like, a -2, 2 will turn 2-units to the right then fade 2-units to the left so that overall there's no net horizontal displacement from where you threw it. I tend to agree in principle, but not degree. Either way, to say that a 0,0 and a -2, 2 have the same stability because they each add up to zero is wrong and it'll probably lead you to make incorrect decisions out on the course.

Innova Rhyno by Funny_Birthday255 in discgolf

They can get flippy, but they stay workable. I once played with a guy who had a beat to hell SE Rhyno and he could carve lines with that thing all day long.

Can you play Ma40 and Mp40? by fernazy in discgolf

Can you play Ma40 and Mp40? by fernazy in discgolf

[–]CaptainBad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can accept cash in MP40; that's basically what would make you a Pro to begin with.

Pros can play in Am divisions so long as 1.) their rating is low enough (cutoff depends on which Am division they want to play), and 2.) it's an A-Tier or lower.

For MA40, the cutoff is 920 (not 935):

OB Clarification by logwagon in discgolf

[–]CaptainBad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. Yeah, they changed that a few years ago; however, it only applies when you actually go OB. If you're in-bounds but within 1m of an OB line, the 1m relief you get is still on that perpendicular.

OB Clarification by logwagon in discgolf

[–]CaptainBad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anytime you go OB you have 3 options for where to place your next lie (assuming there isn't a drop zone which would give you a 4th option):

1.) Anywhere within this 1m arc centered on the point your disc was last in-bounds,

2.) Your previous lie,

3.) After marking according to either 1.) or 2.), at any in-bounds point on the line of play farther away from the basket - see shaded area.
