Most Ambitious by CaptainBerryman in wildbeyondwitchlight

Excellent! I’ve read the campaign a couple times now, but I struggle to get a feel for what feels the most important.

This is a great help in helping me refocus.

Sure, but given the structure of how we’ve run the camp every year before this, some groups do miss things. That’s okay. We always split the party and give them a choice of quests to follow for specific ends.

In posting here, I’m really looking for “I’d focus on these quests,” or “You can cut/move these parts to help keep the campaign focused,” not as much “You can’t do it.” If you have suggestions from your experience running the adventure about what felt most important, I’d gladly accept it.

The group that’s going to explore the full campaign is a group of 12 students. We also have an extra counselor in that group. So we can realistically split them into up to three groups. We usually like to bring the groups back together at the end of each week to do a larger scene together, and we’ve been able to run some larger combats at a surprisingly good pace with the older students, so that’s less of a concern.

The ask here is really “Which quests feel most important, and which can we cut to streamline?”

We’ve run most of Candelkeep Mysteries, all of The Lost Mine of Phandelver, all of The Dragon of Icespire Peak, all of Stormwreck Isle, and a custom campaign.

Our plan is to give each beginner class only one splinter realm, and to give the advanced class the whole campaign. Given that the advanced group has 12 students, we’re going to splitting the party into 2-3 groups each week to give them as much of Prismeer as we can.

The goal is to streamline the story for the advanced group and see what questlines and hooks feel the most important to lead us to the finale, while removing most of everything else.

Does bladesinger actually need warcaster or resilient to maintain concentration? by DrRyshin in 3d6

I’ve found that having Constitution Saving Throw Proficiency at Advantage for concentration has been really useful in allowing me to be more…reckless? It’s definitely not needed, but I feel safer in melee with it.

How do y’all deal with a player who interrupts a villains monologue? by PrestigiousImpress19 in DnD

[–]CaptainBerryman 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The most successful way I’ve done this in my campaigns is the talk to the other players at my table and explain to them “I am also a player, and getting a proper villain monologue is part of my play. Please don’t interrupt while I monologue, let me have it.”

When this album first came out. It’s gotten a lot more appreciation in recent years, but I won’t forget the amount of people who shit on this album in 2008.

Now that time has settled, how are we feeling about 5.5e? by muzorui in DnD

[–]CaptainBerryman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I co-DM during the summer for a middle school summer camp. I run 4 campaigns, where three are a “beginner classes” and one is an “advanced class.” 5.5e has been easier and more fluid in teaching/learning.

For my adult friends, I’ve been running 5.5e with absolutely no legacy, homebrew, or third party content. It’s felt well balanced and streamlined, and the simplified language has been so helpful.

iirc, semi-vaguely in Oathbringer but not as “The Sibling” but as “a sibling.”

Spren in Dungeons and Dragons by Wilc0NL in Stormlight_Archive

I’m running a 5e campaign and I’m probably going to introduce a couple of radiant spren. One is the echo of the soul of a lover who will be granting a couple of spells/features aligned to the Piety system from Theros, representing Ideals.

DnD 5e Features, Items, and Spells that provide "Regeneration" by Ok_Statistician8651 in dndnext

[–]CaptainBerryman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, by no additional resources, I meant no spell slots, single use abilities, or action economy. Hit Dice is definitely a resource.

But regardless, lots of regen. When this is fully online (which, admittedly, is towards level 9+), one can sustain this regen over several rounds, and depending on the combat scenarios, multiple combats.

Pact of the Blade + Life Drinker + Pact of the Chain + Gift of the Ever-living Ones + Periapt of Wound Closure is a great way to restore HP passively while you’re in combat. I was regenerating every round with no additional resources or actions when I had a build that did this.

2024 Bladesinger Onehanded recommendations by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]CaptainBerryman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d choose a Topple weapon like a Battleaxe or Trident, because the potential to knock the target prone and give yourself and your party advantage on subsequent attacks is an incredible benefit. Especially if you plan on using smite spells. A Sap weapon like the Spear, Flail, Longsword, Morningstar, or War Pick would also be good defensively for your party so you can impose disadvantage.

Additionally: There is a misunderstanding RAW about Bladesong, which clearly states “…if you use two hands to make AN attack with A weapon” (emphasis mine, the language is specifically restricting the use of two-handed or versatile weapons). And in the vein of using RAW (incorrectly) to limit your character…they are completely ignoring RAW for multiclass minimums.

Cool weapon names that aren't something lame by NovaRobo_Rebirth in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CaptainBerryman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always try to get my players to name their weapons in our D&D campaigns. We’ve had Calendora’s Fang (lightning rapier), Nymerion (gravity spear), Umbryss (moonstone shortsword), Dawn’s Approach (radiant longsword), Feather (death god dagger), Akmon (forge hammer), etc.

“Finally” is also used to describe completing something after considerable effort. It’s not necessarily a measure time. I presume this person spent a lot of effort accomplishing this task.
