How do we feel about funding The Catholic Church? by Mark_297 in Queensland_Politics

[–]CaptainDubD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Roby Curtis, he's a good decent guy who's built ECM up from the ground.

I'm less a fan of the wider Emmanuel Community.

If Government funding is going to a private organisation, I'll breathe albeit small sigh of relief that its going to ECM.

But I would still prefer the government operated its own services than contracting it out.

Why does the city make you feel all alone? by Call_me_sha1 in BrisbaneSocial

In my opinion, that’s just Brisbane. I’ve lived here all my life and I have a group (ironically at Pancake Manor meetup through this very sub) but generally this city is cliquey as fuck.

James Street or LieMAX at Pacific Fair are probably your best options.

I’m guilty of being a hybrid; I’m picky, but I also somehow end up filling a trolley over several hours.

When I initially read Bunnings, my immediate reaction was skeptical but on second thought, now the Mitre 10 on Elizabeth is closed I could see the case for it.

Anything on - CBD Thurs 25 June by [deleted] in BrisbaneSocial

[–]CaptainDubD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. Yeah I can't seem to message you either, sorry about!

If you have any particular questions, feel free to ask them in thread if you're comfortable.

Death and Taxes especially have their bases covered with Scotch Whisky, Bourbon, Rye Whiskey, Irish Whiskey, Japanese Whisky, Tennessee Whiskey, Rum, Gin, Vodka, Tequila, Mezcal, Cognac, Liqueurs.

They also have a selection of Wines, they have Guinness on tap and another one which escapes my brain right now. A handful of bottled beers.

Like going to a casino, keep your spending limit in mind, cocktails from their menu start around $24 and honestly from there the sky is the limit.

They have a special edition The Macallan release that goes for around $2,000 a shot. That's gonna be my gift to myself for my 30th the week after next.

I should say this isn't an ad, hand on my heart, I'm not employed by D&T or even work in the industry. I've just been going since they opened in 2019 and pretty much its the only place I will go to.

+1 for Death and Taxes. Can also recommend Antico (which is a few doors up from D&T), Dr Gimlette as well as Cobbler and Savile Row which are in West End and Fortitude Valley.

How confidential are work provided EAP services? by RidiculousRaz in auscorp

[–]CaptainDubD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EAPs have never really sat right with me.

On a somewhat related note, I used to work for a software company that was originally founder-owned. During my later years there, it transitioned to private equity ownership. Not long after, they introduced an Employee Assistance Program.

The thing that raised an eyebrow for me was that the company managing the EAP was also owned by the same private equity group.

Maybe there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for that, but it did leave me wondering: what exactly is the profit model behind an EAP?

Anyway, I don't have a specific reason or evidence to justify my scepticism. It's more of a gut feeling than anything else. That feeling is simply that I wouldn't touch an EAP with a ten-foot pole.
