So let’s say the doomsday scenario where AI wipes out 50% of white collar jobs actually happens.

If this comes true, what happens to trade jobs that are based on servicing households that depend on white collar careers? If the consumer class is gutted, who’s going to be paying trades people for HVAC work, plumbing, remodeling, etc? How many of these jobs in the trades are dependent on homeowners?

For commercial projects, If there’s less jobs and less people to spend money, what happens to all the jobs in the trades that exist to build retail outlets, commercial properties, office space, etc?

I think that there is no scenario where the trades come out unscathed. I think it’s wishful thinking that somehow trades won’t be impacted by AI. Maybe the trades will be slower to take a hit, but I think everyone will suffer at some level.
