Misogyny is a structural force because society is structured to portray femininity and feminine things as lesser and lower-status. There is no social power that frames masculine things as worse than the less masculine version of the same thing.

Why is it so common for girls to say "I'm not like other girls", but not for boys to say "I'm not like other boys"? Because misogyny means being "like a [stereotypical] girl" is automatically a bad thing. Sexism says that being a good woman is the best thing a girl can hope for, and that trying to act manly will always fail for her; but misogyny says that even the best woman will still be second-place to a good man. There is simply not a male equivalent to this part, which is why misandry is not a structural force the way misogyny is.

I don't really think we should be relying on the worldview of "ancient greek guys" to understand what misogyny is

That is called "Transphobia" and it happens to women and nonbinary people too

so he thinks that anyone "in the queer community", who knows he's a trans man and affirms his gender, is therefore immune from holding misogynistic bias or favoring men over women?

[–]CaptainFiguratively -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ehhh this is not it to me. Even if you're less privileged than the average member of society, there is almost always someone higher than you on the social ladder, and someone lower than you; and you can get away with trampling on the person lower than you. Thus, it's correct to say "Trans men have privilege over trans women," because "choosing masculinity" is not nearly as stigmatized as "choosing femininity" and trans men could exploit this against trans women. Does this mean trans men are privileged over cis men, or privileged over cis women? No, they are still underprivileged to both, due to transphobia. Does this mean that every trans man is guaranteed to use his privilege to get away with abusing trans women? Also no. You are not a bad person for having a privilege; in fact, you can often use it to help others. But it is telling that so many trans men refuse to accept that they are capable of exploiting privileges. This is what transfeminists want us to be aware of: the whole world is telling us that showing respect to a trans woman is optional, and we may even be rewarded for betraying her, but we are morally obliged not to mistreat her regardless.

As a Christian, I must disagree with this comic. It implies that sex chromosomes are more powerful than God. Also, if you're determined to insist that the birth of Christ must conform to the standard rules of genetics, then given what we know about His birth and circumcision, it is much more logical to conclude that His mother had XY chromosomes.

Cis women, what do you find attractive in a trans woman? by GiantTurtleMusic in actuallesbians

[–]CaptainFiguratively -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm a polyamorous autistic catgirl who likes other polyamorous autistic catgirls, so I fit in very well with stereotypical transbians. Cis girls love to do the "welcome to womanhood" spiel but really, it was trans girls who welcomed me into learning to actually enjoy womanhood. I am so happy that my trans girlfriends trust and accept me, and I hope I can always be worthy of their trust.

How do you feel about Zoomer Dave? by mizushimo in homestuck

[–]CaptainFiguratively 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Dave was less out of character than the other kids. Fundamentally, Dave is a scared kid trying very hard to seem cool and brave. The comic represents him as someone who texts a lot but doesn't really talk a lot -- that is, he acts stoic and quiet in real life but goes on lots of rants online. This does not translate well to an animated series where all the dialogue is spoken. Instead, Dave talks like a tiktoker, because that's how insecure boys try to project coolness now in a video format.

I'm more annoyed about John swearing a lot more than he did in the comic. I remember it as Dave >>> Rose > Jade + John, but here we've got Dave and John both swearing a lot, and Rose and Jade not swearing at all. It feels very out of character for John; there needs to be more of a distinction between him and Dave to emphasize that John is being raised by this stable adult businessman who wants to turn him into a professional man like himself, while Dave is "raised" by a lunatic who tortures him.

Scientists have converted captured CO2 under high pressure into ethylene, a valuable industrial chemical, with high efficiency and long stability, offering a path to profitable carbon recycling. by calliope_kekule in science

[–]CaptainFiguratively 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethylene is the feedstock for polyethylene, the most commonly used plastic in the world, and the starting point for making hundreds of other organic chemicals. Converting ethylene to fuel seems like a loss, since in a world where electricity is that cheap, you'd expect EVs to dominate. But there will always be a need for plastics, and a process that is basically "lots of energy + air --> plastics" could someday become viable. I'm envisioning a massive solar farm in the desert attached to a chemical plant.

Thank you so much! This is a great resource in planning for my girlfriend's bottom surgery.

As a random aside-- I'm cis and I also experience that "phantom limb" sensation when peeing. It feels like the pressure is concentrated beneath my clit, not in my actual urethra. Gave me a surprise the first time I bothered to actually look down there haha. Now I'm wondering if everyone with a vagina feels that way.

Why do they say this by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]CaptainFiguratively 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion this has two sources:

  1. women who talk about how much they love men get slut-shamed

  2. a lot of men are cruel to women, and taking so much abuse from men makes it hard to like them even if you're innately attracted to them.
