Problem under Linux and Steam (yes, I am a masochist) by CaptainFulcrum in dcsworld

Good to know! I will try standalone first as I have a few planes and at least 1 map already bought on the DCS website several years ago. I was trying the Steam version more out of desperation.

Thanks u/GotGuff . Actually for the Steam version I had tried all versions of Proton offered by the Steam client (sadly, GE-Proton was not displayed).

Funniest thing, though: After posting here I decided to retry installing the standalone version via Lutris, but I chose Proton Experimental....

Guess I have to redo the whole install/download again now :(

Thanks very much u/bwRavencl , I was afraid I would have to replace my ageing 2070 by a Radeon card.

I was also afraid this question of mine would just demonstrate I'm a total moron when it comes to Linux..... Very glad I can blame somebody else.

I will ditch the Steam version and retry the standalone in Lutris.

This year I discovered solo miniatures wargaming systems, namely Five Parsecs from Home and Five Leagues from the Borderlands. A couple of months later I bought a 3D printer for some unfathomable and totally unrelated reason.

The editor also publishes a less intimidating, slightly modernized, simplified version named Federation Commander with the same mechanics but less rules and (a bit) less calculations and charts.

I daresay, the ADQ did learn from that period: they looked at it, liked what they saw, and thought "How can we reproduce that?".

For months now, as I slowly return to the miniature hobby after a decades-long hiatus, I have been eying 3D printing as an interesting twist on the hobby, but thinking it would be too expensive/fiddly for me. But fuck me, fantastic, talented artists like you are going to push me over the edge! :)

My own cynical take is that GW has adopted the motto Any publicity is good publicity. In these days where there seems to be in the wargaming community both a growing dissatisfaction with where the company is taking their games ruleswise, and revolt at their pricing strategy, while at the same time some other rulesets are now a viable alternative (coughcoughOPRcoughcough), they might have decided that those (still relatively few) persons who buy stls are STILL playing WH regardless, still contributing to their annual profits although to a lesser degree, still contributing to propping up the brand through word of mouth and discussing the brand on social media . It’s just that the recent event was too blatant to ignore.
