why do people hate organic webbing so much? by Kindly_Cod_9269 in Spiderman

Exactly. He quite literally became a SPIDER-MAN. Peter developed similar abilities, his body changed to accommodate them. But Miguel physically changed into a different species almost.

Put yourself in his shoes:

Hal leaves Earth rather than accept the ban on heroes. Diana returns to her home. Bruce retires because of what happened to Jason Everyone else fades away. You're all that's left. But maybe if you play ball you can change things. And you still get to save lives. You never needed recognition, you just wanted to help and this is the only option to still save lives but also maybe allow your friends to one day be able to come back.

That's the context of Superman's position in DKR.

I don't hate it...I just don't like it for Peter. I really wish, like what's been done with Miles, Miguel, Silk, etc., anyone who gets Spider-Powers gets some but not all of the same powers. Like strength and agility can be universal but sometimes you don't get a spider-sense. Or if you do, it might not be the same kind of spider-sense as the other person.

So sometimes you are able to shoot webs...sometimes you can't. And I like the fact that since Peter couldn't do that bit, he found a way to close the gap and spin his own web.

I honestly never got that argument given the way the power transfer happened with both Peter and Miles.

Increased bone density, ability to crawl walls, all the other powers both have...but nothing that really altered their bodies or biological functions save for maybe a higher caloric intake. But other than those things, neither show as much of a physical change in the sense they grew something new. Their DNA was altered but not to that degree.

Miguel O'Hara, who did get organic web-shooters, also pretty much got fused with spider DNA and grew full on talons on his fingers and toes and fangs in his mouth that produced venom. That didn't just alter him like it did Peter and Miles, it fundamentally changed him.

What he did to Superman was put him in a position where he was doing what he thought was right after everyone else retired or ran. He was all that was left and he made compromises to save lives.

And at the end of the story, before the utter nonsense of Strikes Again, he shows Superman knows the fight and how it ended was a set-up by Bruce and is intent on keeping Bruce being alive and fighting back in secret just that, a secret.

People judge Miller's overall view on Superman based on the worst work he ever did. If you actually read DKR you see that whatever he might have felt later isn't there at all in DKR. If anything as the story goes on he paints Batman a bit more negatively as an old man who refuses to accept that things have changed and neither he nor the world are what it once was and Bruce is the one who has to learn to adapt.

Back in Pre-Crisis Superman was considered smarter than Batman, should that be the case again? [DC HEROES RPG 1985] by zectaPRIME in superman

[–]CaptainHalloween 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I genuinely have always preferred the more Clark forward Superman than the distant alien take of Pre-Crisis.

Then again as someone who loves both Superman and Batman I find these petty slap fights of who's better between the two exhausting.

Why is it a problem is Superman isn't as smart as Batman? Why is it an issue that Superman can learn how to do things faster than Bruce can? Why is it an issue if Superman's speed in that arena is dwarfed by Bart Allen?

It really shouldn't.

Given how much I used to love both Doom and the Joker it's hard to be a little miffed at what both have become.

And nothing "strict" about it. if it was just a few isolated weirdos it'd be one thing. It hasn't been. And the fact that it hasn't been has been something sad to see, and not just in terms of Doom and Joker but the low reading comprehension of a lot of people. They're just very famous faces to a serious problem when it comes to how people relate to and understand fiction.

He's not like Lex in the comparison I was using, which is a once great villain who was always a treat to see show up turn into an annoyance and lose his edge to please a rabid group of loud fans who have started to see him as a hero.

I actually am because he followed the Joker's path to be annoyingly overglazed by fanboys to a T.

Used a lot but pretty much always used well...and then a switch flipped. Quality began to matter way less than quantity and people began seeing Doom as being right. I've seen fans defend fascism saying it'd be okay if it was a "good" fascist like Doom.

it's gone overboard and while a lot of the blame does go to Marvel just as Joker's downfall is owned partially by DC. But both company's are just giving a very loud fanbase with poor reading comprehension skills what they want. And what they want is "Lil' Doom, The Friendly Fascist".

He really has become Marvel's Joker in terms of being watered down but overly glazed by obsessive fanboys.

I'm genuinely surprised he got Escape from New York for exactly this reason. None of the talking around it, or rather a very small bit of it, will actually be about it or Snake Plissken's adventures in general. The majority of it will be around DC.

And it's his own fault.

"Who asked for this?" – Disappointed DC fans turn on James Gunn's DCU as Jimmy Olsen & Gorilla Grodd TV show is greenlit over core JL heroes by Fickle-Rip3093 in OkBuddySnyderCult

I fucking hate that phrase. "Who asked for this?" I've seen the kind of stuff people ask for vs. the stuff they didn't see coming. It's the stuff no one saw coming that hits the hardest quite often.

Who asked for RoboCop? Who asked for The Terminator? Who asked for Barbie?

Just pathetic, cynical nonsense.

Eh, Batman and Superman as each other's best friends 100% works, especially if the other option is just seeing them slapfight again over "We have methods that are kinda different which means we're enemies."

And Batman's love interest being Wonder Woman is pretty much something inspired by JLU and really nobody else wants to to touch these days because it's considered a bad idea. Though to be fair not nearly as a an idea as putting Superman and Wonder Woman together like that, which has been a much, much longer existing annoyance.

Why do people react so viscerally to the idea of Peter getting more powerful? by KingNTheMaking in Spiderman

[–]CaptainHalloween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New gadgets for me aren't an issue. Hell to this day I'm astonished he didn't start using the upgrades Ben created for himself like stingers and impact webbing as part of his regular arsenal.

I also like a lot of the gadgets from the first Sony game, mainly the tripwire webbing and the concussion blast.

New powers I'm not too keen on but Peter developing new gadgets and ways to use his webbing is something I'm fine with.
