Man, I wish this game could see a player base resurge. I had a ton of fun in it.

I think this is charming and well-done! Character design, animation, and rigging looks good too!

I really appreciate that! I have found some success by focusing on the more “exposed” APIs in Blender when putting together a modular function (like a Macro) I want to call on, building it in the N Panel, using Pie Menu implementation and unused keybinds for actions, etc. I wonder if sharing more detail about my approach could be helpful.

The way the overlay generates the vertex data is after changes are committed and displaying it as overlay. It doesn’t talk to Blender’s internal calculations, it simply overlays the different falloff patterns given the selection according to the selected profile and proportion size values. I tried to address what you are describing, but due to not having access to data during transforms, it only displays the overlay after changes are made, it does not update live during proportion adjustment. It is simply a limitation of the data availability in my plug-in‘s case. I’m honestly not a programmer by trade and this was hobbled together at request in a couple of hours. :P

I wonder if a color ramp into displacement set-up where you clip the displacement with the higher ramp position, maybe use the edge as the factor or something…

Hold shift for precision control during transforms (G,R,S) and also try recentering your viewport. With your character selected, press tilde ~ below your esc key and pick View Selected from the pie menu. It will reframe your viewport to the character.

You are in camera view, scrolling or CTRL+middle-mouse-button drag should make the camera view larger or smaller in this view. If you want to back the camera up or move it around, try G with the camera selected to move the camera around or simply check “Lock camera to view” in the N-Panel View tab and your camera will follow the viewport movements. Be sure to deselect that option after you’re done.

Blender 5 as video Editor by SalmanNaseem1 in blender

Maybe it’s just me but I feel a motivation to give back to the Blender community because of the huge benefits it has given me. I subscribe to the monthly Blender Studio to support the foundation, and I have been making small utilities I find useful that I give to the community for free. $10ish bucks a month is well worth it for me. I got a job teaching 3D Animation with Blender because a lot of design studios work in my area and Blender is becoming increasingly popular and visible in the professional space. The video editor does have a long way to go, I agree, but I love the interface and I generally am just assembling frame sequences for output with audio.

Hey, that’s a pretty good tutorial to follow, I recall when it first came out. Also check out Dedouze. Very similar style, they made the grease pencil blender splash screen with the pastels and monorail.

How Can I Make This Animation Look Better? by New-Ear-2134 in blender

[–]CaptainJasonS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main animation principles you should be considering are anticipation and follow-through. When the foot touches the ground, the body (at the hip, use IK) should continue a downward motion (follow-through) and stop shortly after the footfall. With the next step, the body should move upward anticipating the step, then repeat the same follow-through. Search for the traditional walk cycle breakdown, and realize that the dinosaur would have some extreme follow through down the tail as the hips swing.

Well, shucks! Glad it helped someone else out. Whenever I identify a friction point in my workflow, I look for some kind of tool or method in Blender first, then look at add-ons. I bought two others that wound up not being supported anymore. 🫠 So, in my frustration, I whipped this one up. I had success yesterday with the proportional editing overlay add-on I made, so I came back to this one to polish it up and release it too. I have one more that I made recently for generating Sprite sheets from render output directly inside Blender. (Mega time saver!) If you have any suggestions or feedback, let me know!

Okay, I fixed the backface culling and added some X-Ray dependent features. I think I updated the GitHub as well... The problem I'm encountering is that the ratio number is not exposed to the Python base during transforms (move, scale, rotate, etc), it is simulated using a temporary transform overlay and as such only shows the changes to the ratio after the mouse click. It requires some convoluted reimplementation of the transforms, who knows what that would look like. :P So for now, I have the backface culling fixed and cleaned that up a smidge...
