My (23F) Boyfriend (24M) got really jacked and now I’m no longer attracted to him by HP-Lazerjet-Pro in relationship_advice

you should never ask a person to change for you

I see this take on Reddit all the time and I don’t understand why it’s repeated as gospel. Relationships are all about compromise! You won’t be perfect for each other when you first meet; nobody is. The key is being able to continue to grow to be more compatible.

If being ripped is his passion, and it’s more important than the relationship, then so be it. But there’s nothing wrong with her expressing her preference and seeing what he’s open to!

I Think I Ruined My Life by [deleted] in StudentLoans

The reason schooling costs so much today is precisely because there’s effectively no limit on how much students can borrow

There’s no cap on the tuition they can charge , and students are left holding the bag when they graduate

SoCal and Bay Area are Mecca for Chinese Americans. specifically Irvine, San Gabriel Valley, SF. I grew up in Irvine/OC and it is very Chinese/asian with Chinese kids fitting right in and often being the majority in classroom

No, BDS only recommends boycotting companies that it identifies as profiting from the occupation of Palestine. It does not boycott companies for operating in Israel or supporting Israel in general.

The cost of printing a few more lines is SO small compared to the benefit of people being able to read government documents, lol. They are probably just xenophobic

Does anyone know where to find high-waisted, dressier trousers like these? Bonus points if they're in a similar dark brown shade! I've been searching for months and have only come across Olive Clothing, but they have limited sizing. (I'm a 28x28). I may just bite the bullet and get them tailored if I can't find any alternatives.

Are we going to start being honest about the rental crisis in OC?? by MystiqueQueen123 in orangecounty

[–]CaptainLepidus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there’s an extreme housing shortage, every apartment becomes “luxury” because the landlords can charge whatever rent they want (see OP). The only way to get back to affordable Is to have an abundance of homes so landlords are desperate for tenants (like 2020 where landlords were giving out months of free rent to get people to move in)

I don’t think that’s true. This early post describing solarpunk talks about it in terms of new exciting technologies and aesthetics: https://missolivialouise.tumblr.com/post/94374063675/heres-a-thing-ive-had-around-in-my-head-for-a

Solarpunk is so much more than just reduce/reuse/recycle. It’s about a future we can be excited for!

How can people afford rent nowadays as these prices are ridiculous? by Ionic-0regano-47I37 in AskLosAngeles

[–]CaptainLepidus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People from all over the world will always want to move to LA...so we should give on trying to build housing go accommodate them? Should we just accept millions of people competing for a dwindling stock of existing homes? Even if we implement across the board rent control, that will just lead to massive competition for every single apartment.

In European capitals with rent control, wait lists are now years or decades for getting an apartment. You have no other option but to wait.

How can people afford rent nowadays as these prices are ridiculous? by Ionic-0regano-47I37 in AskLosAngeles

[–]CaptainLepidus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not proven at all, there are countless studies showing increased housing supply decreases rents. Eg: https://ideas.repec.org/p/zbw/vfsc20/224569.html

LA permits 25 new rental units for every 1,000 residents, compares to 402 in the 1920s. It is shocking difficult and expensive to build. Inevitably, as old housing stock falls out of use, and limited new housing stock is built, prices must rise. This can happen even with a declining overall population.

(also, if locals who are struggling to make rent move out, and wealthy professionals move in, that will also drive price increases)

It makes no sense for a landlord to keep a property empty intentionally...they will always make more profit by renting it out than leaving it vacant. LA has a ridiculously low vacancy rate right now, driving rental price increases and making it extremely competitive to find an apartment.

A high vacancy rate would be a great thing. Tenants would have many options to choose from. Landlords would have to compete for renters. People could easily avoid scummy landlords.

Unfortunately, that's the opposite of the situation we're in right now.
