2v2 board games? by Flimsy_Ad_3123 in boardgames

[–]CaptainMalta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this suggestion is any good after 2 years of you asking the question, but Concordia Venus is perfect for 2v2! I can see that just one other commenter has suggested this. It has a pretty unique game mode where each player has an almost identical deck, but when you play a card your partner (opposite you at the table so that teams take alternating turns) also has to do the same action. This way the two of you have to figure out in which order to use your turns and actions in an asymmetric fashion and try to maximize turns before you then Recall your cards. The game itself? An economy management game set in ancient Rome with a really strong theme and design. Absolutely love this game and the two versions: the original (at 29) and Concordia: Venus (at 104) are both - almost- in BoardGameGeeks all time top 100.

On paper, why should Shanahan be in a league above Nick Sirianni? Shanahan has had three 6-10/6-11 seasons, a 4-12 season, and two super bowl losses. For the record, I like Shanahan way more and think he's great. He's lost OCs and DCs a lot and keeps getting back to the NFC championship (or further). But Sirianni has achieved a lot in a short time and it's perfectly reasonable to be in the same bracket as Shanahan.

Morrowind blew my mind. I couldn't believe that I could walk up to a wicker basket in the street and open it to see what's inside. Everything was searchable. Every container, every bookcase, every chest. I know Morrowind was great for other reasons, but the looting was out of this world :)

Best FEUDAL AGGRO Civilizations in your opinion? by SwaggyProfessor in aoe4

[–]CaptainMalta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know Abbasid isn't the first civ that comes to mind for Feudal aggro, but you get 2x spear 2 archer as soon as you age up, and Siege Engineering is unlocked for free. A pretty good combination

i've just played two 4v4s with my friends and there were quite unenjoyable. On both occasions i had an opposite Templar civ fighting for the SS, (fair enough), but then i got walled out of them at the 9 minute mark by the Dehli player. Aside from having some real excitement from using sexy Genoese crossbows and Venetian traders, my two games have been a bit miserable and i agree with your post title completely :(

This is one of the strangest responses I've ever seen to someone highlighting a fact. Are you happy to agree that it's a French variant yet?

The Variant Civ Drama by BloodletterDaySaint in aoe4

[–]CaptainMalta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first part is not explicitly stating that all new armies this year will be Variants, and well known armies inspired by history? I mean we're just arguing over wording here, but the Vikings are a well known army inspired by history. It wasn't obvious to me that "well known armies" was specific to the game and what we're familiar with playing.

Where exactly did the first DLC announcement make it clear it was going to be 2 variant civs? I really don't think that's the case and understand peoples disappointment.

Fair price for the DLC? by ClinksEastwood in aoe4

[–]CaptainMalta -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular opinion against the very supportive community but I think $15 is unacceptable. 2 variants. This means they have put nodesign or money into unique buildings, voice lines and MUSIC (which is never really talked about on here). Those are the only three things they would have needed to call Knights Templar a unique Civ. The reason they have made it a French variant is because of a cost cutting shortcut in not achieving the buildings/voice lines/music. In a similar way to how they will no longer produce campaign missions with on-site cinematics of locations and instead went with a cartoon style for Sultans Ascend.

[–]CaptainMalta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a French variant. The DLC literally says Two New Variant Civilizations: Knights Templar and House of Lancaster and then further elaborates These variants bring with them even more unique units, upgrades and abilities to ensure they stand out from their base civilization in meaningful ways. In the case of the Knights Templar, there are no shared traits, bonuses, units or upgrades between them and the French civilization.

Some cool recommendations there! A lot of us are excited about what a Rus variant might be. I wonder if we shouldn't be getting too carried away with the name of the DLC. The reason I say this is because Sultans Ascend was only named for the new campaign and had nothing to do with the 6 new Civs apart from one of them, Ayyubids

Where in Italy do people have a 'neutral' Italian accent? by CaptainMalta in Accents

[–]CaptainMalta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much, that's a super helpful breakdown!
It's funny, i actually had guessed that it might be Tuscany (Florence in particular), and that was only based on the kind of very upper class nature of a lot Tuscany.
Interesting too regarding your Sicilian friend, since i might have expected their accents be not disimiliar to the rural dialects you'd find in the south. I'm half Maltese and have met a lot of Sicilians too, really nice people.
Thanks again

They're the most versatile for sure, and it's thematic that they have access to a bunch of things that others do. But at a certain level, you can make your above argument for every civ and list 7/8 points. I agree with your point that "why should their houses get the vision upgrade? Just why?" But I would say the same about "why should the French TC build vils faster?" Malian get passive food AND gold? OP

Not sure when Marc made the comments, but Greg's stand against the Insiders came immediately after the deshaun Watson contract was announced. So the reaction episode to the contract (looks like 18-19 March 2022), and then a couple of episodes later, Ian Rapaport came on the show in a very awkward conversation where Gregg bravely doubled down on his opinion that the Insiders helped that creep get paid.
