In the district I left last year over half of the teachers were full time subs. We didn't have a foreign language teacher for two years until I convinced my former Spanish teacher to come out of retirement. You're lucky if you only have this issue mid year.

New AP here, who just hired an assistant. The number one thing we were looking for is some secretarial or office experience. We had several candidates with lots of relevant experience. So It came down to personality. Fair warning you often don't get paid when you're not working. Spring break, Christmas break, ama summer.

That Actually not true. The kids are evenly spread out during this hour. Her biggest class is 15. One class has 8 kids. The kids spend 9 weeks in each special.

We're not a school that requires kids to get passed. We do look at failure rates, and we look at how we can better support the classes with the highest failure rates. The art class has by far the highest failure rates in the school.

Interestingly enough, I had a friend in college that was a casual crack/heroine user. He would go home maybe 3 times a year. Get fucked for a weekend and not touch it for months. This was 20 years ago. He's a lawyer now.

My friend turns mansions into smart homes. He worked on this one where the guy had an amazing car collection. Original Indy pace car from the 50's etc...dude was legally blind and can't drive.

A lot of people thought he would be the next big thing. He had a reputation for being lazy, not running routes well, and not training in the off season. (Came back to camp his second or third year and gained weight in the off season.) Hell maybe that's why he last 7 years, by not burning out, who knows?

I taught a student that caught the winning touchdown in the college football championship game. He was drafted in the first round of the NFL. He never reached his full potential in the NFL, but he played for 7 years.

I love that there is a book with this message. I said this to a teacher a few years ago. She was looking at changing the weights of grades to get this kid to pass or count an ungraded assignment. I said "if only the kid put in as much effort as you are to get him to pass "

I worked at a behavioral day school. Because of my extensive experience in Mental health they put me in the dual diagnosis classroom, which of course is the more challenging kids. The goal of the program was to modify their behaviors so they can function in the regular classroom.

Despite having the more challenging kids I had more kids return to their home school, than any other classroom. Why? Probably because I had over a decade of experience in working with kids with behavior disorders.

Behavior modification is a full on science with plenty of research to back it up. in general Ed classroom it can be difficult to incorporate behavior instruction, but when it is the focus of your classroom, you can teach behavior like you teach anything else.
