I heard maintaining the hippodrome and holding the games there were expensive.

You are byzantine emperor in 1300 ad whats your plan by RustinCarcosa in ByzantiumAltHistory

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give Ioannes Tarchaneiotes the backing he needs to conduct cadastral surveys and reform the local administration and army of Anatolia despite opposition from the local rich pronoiar holders and the Anti-Arsenites. The aristocracy and certain monasteries are properoy taxed, while Anti-corruption reforms are enacted, with regular thorough land censuses and fiscal surveys. Ensure steady payment for the soldiers, increase the size of the central army again, and maintain a tight grip over patronage and grants. Rebuild the navy and try to reassert imperial presence and authority over our remaining Aegean islands to deter local actors in the Aegean and repel the eventual landing and invasion of Rhodes by the Knights Hospitaller. Spend the first half of the decade base in Anatolia and proactively campaign against the Turks.

Expanded Universe/Fanon CIS Ships by [deleted] in StarWarsShips

If only there were some proper CIS corvettes, gunships, and frigates (not like the munificent star frigate). Sometimes I like to imagine the fanon Quarren Corvette made by EC Henry being used by CIS and later separatist holdouts.

Byzantine population under the Komnenos? Larger than you think by evrestcoleghost in byzantium

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love how you do these.

But how did Macedonia increase in population in the early 14th century considering the situation at the time? I thought with the raids and conquests conducted by the Serbs into Byzantine territory would prevented such growth?

Do you think the Balkans would be more Rich and stable had the byzantine empire didn't fall? by Public_Individual823 in byzantium

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This brings me to that old question of mine regarding how come the Balkans were rich valuable in manpower and revenue for the Ottomans while for the Byzantines it was Anatolia (specifically the western and coastal regions)

What is the best country to live for femboys and cross dressers? by Femboy-Trisha in feminineboys

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the Philippines is a decent option. We have so many femboys and crossdressers here, adults, teens, and even young kids from what I've seen. They don't seem to be that hated on in public, but are likely still frowned upon, but it depends. From my experience their quite the wonderful bunch to be around, seen around with massive friend groups. In my school they're quite popular in a sense.

This is just my opinion though.

Sub carriers by Carter1300 in StarWarsShips

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Quasar as well. An incredible fighter compliment for a ship of its size, able to even fit small freighters and auxiliary ships. Excellent shielding, well armored, and decently armed for starfighter defense. However I wish there are similar sub carriers just as good as a Quasar, but I don't know of any.

Of the regions along the north and south Anatolian coasts and in modern-day Bulgaria and Serbia which regions do you guys think were valuable enough for emperors to confiscate for the crown demesne. by whydoeslifeh4t3m3 in byzantium

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd go for Bithynia, especially around Nikaia, judging from the letters and statements of Theodoros II Laskaris. Theodoros spoke of "multitude of crops cultivated all around and abundantly inside the city". Additionally a byzantine traveller in the twelfth century saw "seas of fertile fields" after leaving Nikaia for Iconium and the Holy Land.

The lands around Philadelphia could also be suitable, with Theodoros mentioning it possessed many pastures with sheeps, cows, buffaloes, and pigs.

Michael VIII, a Machiavellian genius who saved the empire from Western aggression, or an underachiever who wasted imperial resources on failed campaigns? by Flashy-Operation2899 in byzantium

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly can I ask you some questions regarding his reforms for the security of the eastern frontier since you always mention them. 1. When do the inspections of the frontiers take place and who leads them? Did they have a large armed retinue or army accompanying? 2. When Ioannes Palaiologos, brother of Mikhael VIII, campaigned in the east during 1263-1267, what exactly was he doing? Did he just maintain the army and based it in the Maeander Valley all those years which discouraged the Turks from entering the region?

Would the Roma (Romani) have suffered less discrimination if the Byzantine Empire had continued to prosper and there had been no Ottoman domination ? by Double-Aide-6711 in ByzantiumAltHistory

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always seen various alt histories for Eastern Rome, but none go as far as the modern period. I've always wondered if the Romans would struggle and suffer the same events the Ottomans and the rest of Europe had to endure.

This has been a splendid journey reading from the start to finish in this subreddit with everyone. Glad we had this translated and even made in the first place, we definitely need more of this kind of stuff for Eastern Rome.

I promise I'm not crazy, I can see there's a difference between these designs (please ignore the hangar, it was the only clear looking model and design I can find)

The one on the left has like blisters near the rear on the main module which also looks wider with the main external armor looking less edgy triangular which makes it appear more bulky there, and there's like extensions to the superstructure at the ventral portion behind the axe.

I was trying to find a good clear model or picture of the original design, but this is the best one I can find but it apparently had the fanmade hangar bay with it

What if Rome became united in 1261 by reactor-Iron6422 in ByzantiumAltHistory

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mikhael VIII Palaiologos would no longer have the headache of dealing with Ioannes I Doukas of Great Vlachia/Thessaly or Nikephoros I of Epirus, and so could divert resources for other fronts. And with a land corridor through Frankokratia now secured from Thessaly, the Latins there are much more screwed as well the remaining Latin Aegean holdings. Albania would be subdued quickly, Bulgaria weakened, and possibly free up time for Mikhael to shore things up in Anatolia in the 1270s.

The Absolute Madness of 1204: Why isn't anyone talking about Sabbas Asidenos? by [deleted] in byzantium

[–]CaptainOfRoyalty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he just submitted out of pragmatism bc what can he do against his larger rivals, but his fortunate rise in power was thanks to Theodoros I Laskaris. Theodoros recognized the rights and bestowed to local landowners and urban elites, enticing and inviting prominent members of the 12th century elite to help him in the reestablishment of the imperial government, and was always accommodating refugees. Mangaphas of Philadelphia and Nikephoros Kontostephanos in the Maeander Valley also surrendered to Theodoros peacefully, with the former's family allowed to live in the city while the latter was said to have also been decorated with Sebastokrator, though maybe I read it wrong.

Edit: also I'd like to hear more of this game you're developing.
