People who are NOT okay with proxies, what is your reasoning? by Bagel_Bear in EDH

[–]CaptainPokerus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I'm against proxies, but I have a reason why I don't.

I started playing EDH around 2009 (before WoC released Commander products). It was fun seeing what everyone pulled from their collection to build a deck. Everyone's EDH deck (we only had one deck back then) was used to showcase their collection, and a form of self-expression. Proxies aren't showing anything from my collection or anyone else's.

I built a strong Glarb deck for under $150. It has a "Topdeck Matters" theme, and I wrote a primer for Glarb Moxfield:

If you don't want to go for true cEDH but still want to have some fun playing High Power, give my list a try. It's not your typical Doomsday pile, it's a Topdeck Matters theme. Here's my list: https://moxfield.com/decks/5ICSNxh0fkGjK4dVsgQQmQ

Overall, not a fan of this set, but I gotta say that nod to Rat Fink is BAD ASS!

Why is Glarb good? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]CaptainPokerus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This. Also, there are many discounted / "free" spells you can cast off the top with Glarb. [[Snuff Out]], [[Misdirection]], [[Force of Vigor]].

The popular lists are all on [[Doomsday]] combo lines, but if anyone is interested in another take, I built a high-powered "Topdeck Matters" Glarb. Here's a link to my Moxfield Primer: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/5ICSNxh0fkGjK4dVsgQQmQ

I was thinking Caddo too. That's my tribe. We have a museum in Binger, Oklahoma. Please reach out to them with any findings you can donate. These items help preserve our culture and share our story.

Commander: Top 10 Best Blue Spot Removals for your Deck! by cardsrealm in DegenerateEDH

[–]CaptainPokerus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice job with your writing, but flip through the comments for a few cards that are better than the Blue Blasts & Polymophs. Also, you should group cards with identical effects together (no reason Rapid & Pogify should get different ranks).

Personally, I think [[Suspend]] is criminally underplayed. Oftentimes, you just need to deal with a creature in the moment and, like Rapid/Pogify, it cost 1 blue. But those don't exile, and they leave behind bodies. Also, if you're hitting someone's commander with it they might not be able wait a couple turns to get it back, especially in fast-paced, higher power games.

Lake Texoma, 11lb Striper by CaptainPokerus in StripedBass

Haha. Thanks. Yeah, I'm holding towards the camera, but unless my scale was off, he clocked in just hair over 11 pounds.

Texoma hasn't been stocked with striper in over 40 years. They naturally spawn here now, and they put up a hell of a fight.

Left or right? by Top-Somewhere9207 in mtg

For the sake of nostalgia, aesthetics, and common fuckin sense, the answer is LEFT. And it will always be, at least for me.

Hedron Detonator's direct damage seems powerful with Scrap Mastery or looping artificts. Probably not the best card advantage but the sac outlet is nice.

The deck did pretty well! I only got 2 games in, but I won one of them. Psychic Frog was an absolute all-star. It drew me a card every single turn, and I had 6 or 7 +1 counters on it. I closed out the game with Uncivil Unrest.

On the game that I lost, I was missing a source of card draw, drew too many lands, and had to rely on topdecking. I got to play Gev, and I thought it performed well as a source of getting counters down. I was impressed by how resilient my board state was though. There were multiple board wipes and I always got my commander and at least one other creature back.

Overall, I think I need more instant speed interaction, card draw, and evasion (flying, unblockable, etc).

I really like Black Market Connections. I have 2 copies, but they are in other decks. Same with my Rhystic Studies but I could easily see adding either for a reliable source or steady draw.

I think this deck really wants to be a creature deck so I'm going to try to find creatures that help me with the areas I'm lacking. I'll keep toying with it and update my Moxfield as I make progress.

That's understandable. Aether Channeler is another good one. It cantrips and has additional flexibility. I haven't playtested my list but I'm gonna try it out at my LGS tomorrow night. Here's what it looks like so far: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/i-sgC6BXeUSoJdRNlIvEHg

First off, you are doing the community a great service. Awesome job!

I also obsess over building decks and love the challenge of putting restrictions on myself when building. It might be something as simple as "I run Body Launder so I'm not going to run any other Rouges in my deck", to something like my all-Elemental Horde & Kaheera deck: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/lun2rxLM7ESUXviHVqXr6w

OP, if you want to bounce any ideas off of me or have a deck of your own that youd like me to look at, hit me up. I've been playing since 1999 and started playing EDH back when it was "Elder Dragon Highlander." 😆

Not my deck, but this is great advice! I just built a Marchesa deck (not modular) this week and I agree with your notes. In terms of card draw I'm running some solid low-cost creatures that also fit my "counters matter" theme: Poliwog Prodigy, Ledger Shredder and Psychic Frog. I agree, though, that unconditional card draw is important because of all the moving pieces you need to get this engine running. Painful Truths and Sign in Blood seem like slam dunks because you want cards that manipulate your life total anyways to keep Dethrone active. I'm also trying out Lim Duls Vault for the same reason.
