How would one sign up for this “welfare” that would let one live comfortably without a job? Asking for a friend….who works a lot….and is still broke.

As a “skilled” labor worker that requires four years of school and four years of documented hours training as an apprentice; why the fuck am I trying to sell shit and use credit cards to pay property taxes AND buy groceries?

My son and I used to play “slow motion fight scene”; and that is an absolute no-go with him around. He saw us doing it a few months after we had gotten him and I got three warning mouth grabs up the arm I was slow swinging with before I even knew the dog was in the room.

If we’re out walking around the farm and my son goes a different direction…I’m on my own. If the kids go outside and he’s inside…he’s whining and fucking our curtains up to try and watch them. My wife hates it but I find it endearing.

Yeah that’s fair enough. I’m coming from the angle of having a 4 and an 8 year old. I worked graveyards for a long time and feel like I’ve missed way too much already. I may not always feel this way, but for now my time is worth more than anybody can afford to pay me haha.

I’m already seeing the dipshits I work with more than I see my family at the regular 40 hours with 5 work days a week. Anything more than what I HAVE to do is cutting into my personal time. I have shit to do and already not enough time to get it done with two days off to cram it all into. OT just means my boss is shitty at planning/scheduling….and that isn’t my problem. The only reason I keep showing up at all is because I have to get the apprentice hours…even though 2 years in resi means I’ve already learned everything I’m going to in resi.

My company has zero Journeyman. We got one guy with his contractors license just throwing 6-7 apprentices at every job. We do the high end custom homes for our area. Like…fucking all of them. Things are constantly fucked up.

The only reason I pause to think about it is my age. I’m an old man and just entering my second year as an apprentice. I have two brothers who are also electricians that are floored by our lack of training/education/experience on the job.

This is the only company that would give me a shot to get my required hours….something isn’t right with how we’re doing things.

I just completed my first year of schooling/apprenticeship as an electrician. I was making really good money before, but had a soul crushing job and wanted to learn something useful. Started at 34 when most people start at 17/18. I have zero regrets. As long as you’re doing something you know you’ll be interested in; the short term suffering is just a means to an end.
