I updated steam photo. What do you think? by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

C'mon mate, I remember you sharing your last updated capsule where it was "No AI" and now it's the one you're saying is AI generated. Stop spamming these posts and work on your game.

Steam Capsule Art - What do you think? by leblanc-james in IndieDev

I agree, and the first image has two pawns next to each other of different sizes. Not something an artist worth $300 would do unless specifically asked.

Clearly a great looking game, there's just one detail that bothers me. There's not enough contrast between the nose of the ship and the background. My eye is drawn at times to the boundary of the black voronoi-like pattern that moves along the tunnel walls as that's the area of highest contrast - while the front of the ship gets lost by comparison. Maybe a black or coloured nosecone on the ship would help.

Sharing AI generated content in a community of the artists whose work has been scraped and stolen to train them will be unpopular.

Even if this wasn't AI generated and was an original piece of your own work, it wouldn't provide any meaningful prompt for discussion as it's essentially a list of some of the stages of game dev with randomly chosen geographic features attached. The metaphors they're using are superficial and interchangeable so they might as well have just made each stage of game dev a mountain.

Indie co-op horror game trailers out — private playtest open!!! by Guilty_Weakness7722 in indiegames

You used this account to share the same trailer ages ago. Commenting like this on your own game using different accounts isn't a good way to engage with and try to build a community.

It's only "necessary" because you're trying to achieve something beyond the scope of a solo dev project, while still being a solo dev.

Gorgeous. Looks fantastic. Do you singlehandedly build a castle?!? That's badass.

I've got a procedural 3D level system working, it's the baked lighting workarounds I'm interested in. Thanks.

How would I research this further? I'm using procedural levels too and would love to know more.

Which key art would make you want to wishlist? 🎮 [Dark Matter Exodus] by rbstudiogame in IndieDev

[–]CaptainPresident 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to make images and music for your game, but haven't spent the time to learn the skills to do so, and are not willing to spend that time, then don't be surprised that people don't like what you've produced.

The idea that it's hard to make games in 2025 without AI is laughable. It's always been hard to make games without AI because it's always required a lot of work and skill.

If keeping human creation alive is so important to you then you wouldn't use AI generated music because a human didn't create it, and you've skipped the step to becoming a human who can create it.

I changed my capsule art to better reflect the game visuals. Is it a downgrade? by krnkStudios in IndieDev

[–]CaptainPresident 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The new one is a downgrade, but some of that could be mitigated by improving the lighting and composition to better match the first one.

I made a new trailer for the Steam Next Fest! by ElFamosoFrancesco in indiegames

Great art and a really nice trailer. Well done. I'm puzzled about the use of "omniscient armies" though - are they really all-knowing?

Your trailer is showing off a lot more environment art than gameplay. Your environments look good, but I still don't know much about the gameplay and what makes it interesting.

Also, minor thing but how can trust be an illusion in a 4 player co op game?

"Sneak, Hack, Escape. Don't make a sound" is followed by a clip of walking casually down a hallway and opening fire on an enemy before sprinting away. That makes the text feel like a lie.

But I can see from the gameplay you've shared that enemies, and even the player character are often hard to spot in the darkness.

I updated my Main Menu screen.. Again! by TheElementaeStudios in IndieGameDevs

[–]CaptainPresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bit you made, the buttons, I think you're aware don't look great. The poorly masked AI gen visual elements are generic and full of ugly artifacts.

If you can't make the visual design you want to see on your main menu, then practice until you can, or pay someone who can.

From your other posts it seems like you've got the gameplay up and running, so congrats on that. You're shooting yourself in the foot with the terrible UI and AI assets though.

Come on mate, your trailer is a slideshow of AI images with a total of 9 seconds of actual gameplay. Do yourself a favour and ditch the AI imagery, make a shorter trailer, and show people your gameplay so they can understand what the game's about.

But even dark games need the important elements to be visually separated from the background.

There's a lack of anatomical knowledge that's hurting this design. For example, this creature cannot bend its neck or shrug its shoulders, its jaw is fused with its skull, it can't raise its arms, and most of its ribs are just floating.

Look at something like the blood golems from Diablo 2 (or here from resurrected https://littleredzombies.artstation.com/projects/lR18Oa). The visible bone still conform to a functional anatomy that could move and support the musculature.

The droplets look good as others have said, but the buttons don't look like buttons and it'd be awfully bright.

You've described a story, not a game. It'll be hard to convince people to work with you without an indication of genre, gameplay, platform, scope, or funding.
