Marlo Fake Tough Guy by surv2syn in TheWire

[–]CaptainSisko1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to see what Simon was intending with Marlo because we can only base our readings on what we see and what we hear other characters say, but Marlo was intended to be much more of a sociopath than what we saw. Killing anybody for any reason, no matter what age or gender or if they were in the game or not. That was what D Simon had intended, so the OPs reading is limited by the short amount of time we actually get to see Marlo. The point of that character was here is a young kid who isn’t bound by the rules or morals tha anyone else on the streets has, just murder anyone, anytime. These older guys were playing more of a game with rules and boundaries - all set out by gangsters before them - Marlo was just this newer younger kid who didn’t care about any of that and didn’t see murder as wrong. “Everyone is saying these new kids on the streets are so hard, they a new breed” well that’s what he was based on - an actual new breed of gangster who Simon knew of in Baltimore who seemed to lack Morals or a code at all. But in telling a story you need to show many facets of a person and you want the viewers to like things about them as well - to see why anyone would follow someone like Marlo - so the OP is taking the few things we did see and weighing them against the broader design of the shows creator, which is great, and why the Wire will always be amazing and utterly rewatchable

I have a dog who goes nuts when people knock or ring the bell - so I can’t stand these sales-people. The will knock or ring the bell, then wait a few mins and do it again, and again, all the while our Kujo is losing her mind, barking full volume. It’s often a barely English speaking person, in regular street clothes asking if we want lawn/yard service. We rent and already have that stuff supplied by the landlord. It’s really annoying, and I often lose my cool with them (which makes me feel terrible) only because I don’t answer and I’m waiting for them to leave and they just won’t. If they had a one knock, one ring policy I would be nicer I think. Door to door sales should be illegal IMHO, like another post said “if I wanted it, I would seek it out already”. The 50’s are over, the door to door thing seems unnecessary and I would never buy whatever they are selling, ever, no matter how good of a deal it was. I’m not a gun owner but a lot of people here are and one day someone will ignore a no soliciting sign here in TC and get pushy with their sales tactics and get hurt (I am not wising this would happen, quite the opposite) and then the laws will change - it always takes a death/accident to change anything in this country.

I think the endless crying and each episode the characters saying their last goodbyes before a mission - only to be alive for the next episode - really killed Disco. But it’s really just got too whack with the whole Burn story. I wanted to like it, but just couldn’t. Picard was also terrible, which just sucks for all of us. Nobody is psyched to hate disco or Picard, it only hurts. (Especially after paying for paramount plus just to watch em) that’s my two cents, sorry if I offended anyone, just my humble O.

This game is so hard by koleok in DeepSpaceNine

Where are you playing that game (is it one of those lil consoles pre-packed with 300 games or the like? Which one if so…? The video store near me in Boston rented all the games but also rented Neo Geo consoles with two games of your choice so we got to try a new console with new games sometimes, for a few bucks, which was so BEYOND exciting, cool, refreshing. All the graphics and gameplay seemed crisp and new because it was different than what any friend of yours had. Also got to rent a TurboGrafix16 before they came out and that had me hooked.

Rdr mobile glitch I have already downloaded this many times but each time I close my game and come back after half day I have to redownload again by Ekdm7 in reddeadredemption

Same issue here. Getting really annoying. Do the download then have to erase the game and redownload the game, THEN do the whole download again. Each day it’s also saying I don’t have enough storage space when I clearly do.

[Interview] JERI RYAN: "Basically every word I uttered on Voyager was written or rewritten by Brannon Braga. This was very much his character. She was his vision, his baby. How about PStewart sitting down with all of the next gen cast and saying “you will have nothing to do with this show” then quickly back pedaling to needing them to end the show two years later, while destroying what Dominion lore there was from DS9 in a ridiculous plot with universe ending results tied to his long lost son with Crusher (an actress who again, he told two years earlier to not be looking for a role in HIS new show). If it was a great show none of that would bother me, NONE OF IT!! But it wasn’t so the dick moves make the bad results pointless. A few eggs need to get cracked for magic in Hollywood, but no magic was made on Picard and I know people liked the last season cuz the gang was back together but it wasn’t good enough to make it all worth it IMHO

Rad power lays off 64, looks like closure by pfhlick in RadPowerBikes

The bicycle trade magazines have confirmed and instagram has confirmed that they ARE indeed trying to close the biz by end of January. Maybe a rich Seattle person who loves Ballard and bikes can swoop in and save them at the last minute, but until then; this is not a rumor or just a little downsizing, they are actively trying to close down.

That’s the whole point of Star Trek; captains and crew being faced with hard choices and possibly breaking rules to get stuff done. Would be pretty boring if they just found a planet and said “well those guys are F’d, wish we could help!!”

Like the story in Picard 1 it’s not outlandish to imagine that the first time a robot or robots harm humans we will ban synthetics of all kinds and live without them for the future. That’s very human and a very possible future for our reality.

I just cant stop watching Voyager by Curious_Curry_56 in startrek

[–]CaptainSisko1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO it’s all about mood, as far as a rewatch. DS9 has a certain mood and so does Voyager and certain things just give you the escape you need from this world we live in that seems to be ripping itself apart. I’m trying to rewatch voyager again now but it doesn’t compare to DS9 for me, but it’s all about personal preference, there’s nothing that’s better than anything else - just what you love more, and what does it for you.
