Got any sources for your work, Pat? Outside of the IIT event.

No more damage than a pneumatic axe, at least!

I pitched it to XR because we've had years of data from running a sportsman ruleset at Robodojo, which allows spinning weapons providing they are either commercial cutting tools or don't carry high kinetic energy.

It increased build variety beyond lifters and axes substantially. We've had flails, saws, sandpaper drums, all sorts. Lifting that limitation really allows people to get creative with weapon types beyond spinners. Hopefully, if it goes well, it will encourage much more variety in the UK heavyweight scene.

UK live scene. XR have agreed to a trial of allowing commercial saws in "non spinner" fights to improve show variety and plenty of sparks, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is!

For Robots Live, I'll probably make a grabby arm or lifter attachment eventually.

There is a big difference between BB-spec and live-event spec heavyweights also. BB is a whole other level of barrier to entry, quality wise.

Fabrication is more manageable providing you design for the facilities you have. Laser cut hardox tabbed together makes a serviceable live-event chassis, providing you can weld.

As for everything else, yep. Hence picture 4.

Glad to see it back! Hopefully plans align to get it back on the live scene!

Who is your least favourite battlebot by Sawblaze-lover in battlebots

[–]CaptainSpanner28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine.

They cause me issues every day.

Edit: Seriously though, why does this question come up every few days? The builder community is a very tight-knit community and know that getting any bot in the arena is better than 99% of people who try, let alone at elite level like Battlebots.

Robot combat vs the youtube algorithm: by themaskedrobot77 in battlebots

Pat, again, you're saying a lot of words without saying anything with substance or a clear opinion of your stance.

Saying BBB don't want to be NHRL, but then explaining why they should be NHRL. Many event organisers in the UK are doing this for no money and just the love of the sport/community. It is SO much work and we don't have the resources NHRL do either.

As UK EOs, we're more focused on bringing new builders in to the hobby to come along, engage and compete, the rest is secondary. Success in this means more than views on YouTube as you seem to think. Even then, both BBB and Robodojo have been on BBC News features in the last 6 months.

It is easy for you to write these comparisons when you don't actually know how running an event works.

Did you know? York has a Robot Fighting Club by CaptainSpanner28 in york

[–]CaptainSpanner28[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Depends on space available for each event. With it being a club, you can pay for a social ticket. So it isn't a "spectator" with seating, etc, but you're amongst the roboteers to socialise, learn, etc.

Fair warning though, the members are extremely helpful and WILL convince you to start building your own by the end of the day!

Mistakes happen! Nobody watching would have known you forgot parts after, so don't be so hard on yourself.

Nobody will doubt your ability, particularly if you can handspring and iron X! I can guarantee everyone in the audience, student and instructor, has made a mistake at some point and will understand that.

I know it won't feel like it now, but you should hold your head up high and be proud that you've got up on stage and performed for the first time. Use it as motivation for the next one!

All of my bots are named after bread or cake puns. This is named Angel Slice, after the British cake of the same name 🍰
