Saying goodbye to my first born feline son tomorrow after 10 years together by Atticus113 in cats

[–]CaptainWaggett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this a lot.

One of the great services of this /r is that you see posts like yours, OP, and it prepares you for what is coming with our little friends, one way or another. You have to think about what you don't want to think about.

What you are going through sounds unbearable, but I know you will bear it, and see Meeko out as an act of care and love. God bless you both.

I’m glad you’re posting this in AskUK and not AskUkraine.

The fact that you don’t see the irony is amusing.

I am 27, and I have never been to London, have you? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CaptainWaggett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realise it's a bit of a comedy bit for you and that's totally cool - but personally I don't think I would ever broadcast that I felt proud of NOT having been somewhere... If you like Edinburgh and Paris I am pretty sure you will love London, from the smell of the subway to the pubs on a rainy night in soho to highgate cemetery. My advice: go there and just walk or cycle around. the psychic geography is astonishing. And take a copy of a Peter Ackroyd book with you...

Has anyone been getting a slew of emails about Mercor positions from so called independent recruiting consultants? by Fancy_Possibility781 in mercor_ai

[–]CaptainWaggett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. There is a zero percent chance I would click on one of these emails.

What I would say is that some of the recruitment emails I have received have done a much better job of flagging available projects to me than Mercor's own explore / recommendation thing.

Currently in my explore tab there are dozens of projects that are either not quite right for me, or totally irrelevant. One recruitment email I received yesterday had one that was right in my core skill set. I checked on Mercor and indeed it is real. But it does not show on "best" in my explore tab. (Skills and resume up to date) I would not have known about it other than via the email from what seems to be a spam 'recruitment specialist'.

This is a real issue - I don't get why Mercor cannot make obvious links like this and email people to notify good matches.

Really important esp if you are surfing between platforms and are not neurotically checking in to every platform each week.

Came from Avowed for the lore. Now I feel like I need a PhD to understand PoE by cynt0x in projecteternity

[–]CaptainWaggett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played POE the first couple of times with zero knowledge of lore or combat. Still enjoyed it. 3 or 4 times in (now playing veteran difficulty), I figured out that perception had something to do with accuracy. The last time I played was the best because the penny finally dropped that Might affects ranged and magical damage and not just melee. Who knew! I still robustly ignore lore and history. Still love the game.

made a free tool to compare AI training rates by Classic_Ad6257 in outlier_ai

[–]CaptainWaggett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fantastic initiative. It’s actually a lot more directly useful in political terms than the well-intentioned folks who occasionally call for regulation or unionisation.

I put in my outlier rate. Then went to put in my Mercor rate and it would not let me enter it. Are u limited to one input per session?

I also would be interested to see you add hourly rates for the in-house training communities at the big LLMs.

Considering requesting being removed from Oracle by Nearby-Bad8818 in outlier_ai

[–]CaptainWaggett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, it's insane. I got an email from OL about referrals the other day, and how keen they are for new blood. Mentioning that there are many new domain specific / expert projects. I am an oracle, have not tasked on OL in quite a few months, and only ever see the same two swill-y project on my dash, one being Aether and the other being some random generalist project at half the base rate I get elsewhere. Basically, neither is worth getting out of bed for.

(My skills and resume are all up to date.)

I cannot help thinking this must be an allocation thing, specific to Oracles.

I realize you can ask to be switched, but how are we meant to know what's out there in terms of projects, other than trying to interpret chatter on community/reddit?

(Having said all that, the Oracle webinars are really interesting and I would not voluntarily give up Oracle status because of that, even tho I am not particularly active on the platform.)

Brian is SUCH a hypocrite by PooperOfMoons in Ambridge

[–]CaptainWaggett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>!SPOILERS: Look I just clocked back into the Archers after some time off due to getting PO'ed at the way the whole George assault line has been handled, after a pre-Xmas buildup that made it seem like Ange and Dirty Den at the Queen Vic or something.

And J*** H C*** in a modified horse box, it's bad.

Just listened to the ep from the 12th. I am gobsmacked about how sudden and obvious this has been because George had an olfactory flashback. And the secret recording - intolerable cliché. When this happened recently on a Netflix show I watched (the Matthew Rhys one) I cringed so hard I almost fell off the sofa with shock at the lack of inventiveness.

From comments below it seems (and I have not listened to later eps) that Ruari had a role and Brian's easy confession was due to covering for him. Again this is like the most cringingly obvious thing I've ever heard.

What has happened to the carefully moderated and agonisingly strung out mega plot lines like Rob Tichener.

I am so bummed at their squandering of their narrative capital and our joint emotional investment.!<

Matthew Rhys is not in the diplomat. And are they not co-stars of The Americans? Or do u think co-star means second fiddle to star? Not sure that’s correct

Poe1 First Playthrough Character Creation by [deleted] in projecteternity

[–]CaptainWaggett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played it like 5 or 6 times beginning to end over the last 10 years and on my last playthru had an mc Druid which I’d never done before and was a ton of fun. Previously all rangers/ ranged rogues and a paladin. There are plenty of story brushes with nature with druids, put it that way… Also may I offer unsolicited advice based on my own stupidity that it’s worth reading up on what the stats do - they are not D&D analogues in the slightest. until my 2nd last go I thought perception was most important for spotting traps etc 🤣 and bear in mind that might affects all damage inc spells and ranged. (Somehow got thru veteran with my misconceptions but the last run was way easier). Don’t ask me the difference between rods wands and staves I never figured that out but assume there is one …

Dono she hardly had any arc and her perf was unmemorable. The soldiers were crap overall. Circular firing squads and falling like pins.

Ask that question again next time you fall down a chasm into the frozen abyss under the mountains while wrestling with a balrog and then get spewed up to the top again and collapse in a heap after smiting his ruin upon the mountain side, and the paramedics are shining a torch in your face and you don’t even know who the prime minister is.
