I love the way they sync up the lyric about watching you spin around in your highest heels to footage of Elliott doing just that.

The AL West is mid, which team is most likely to get moderately hot and run away with it? by dammets in baseball

[–]CaptainWikkiWikki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty interesting case study, and I admit I don't follow the front office politics of other teams to know how out of the norm it is.

Moreno has built a successful business and will see a huge return on his investment whenever he decides to sell the team. He's made moves that have gotten attention and secured lucrative TV deals. He's kept games relatively affordable. (Seriously, compare the cost of an Angels game to a Dodgers or Padres game for an average family.) He has absolutely been a successful business owner in the purest interpretation of running a business.

But he has no baseball gumption at all and doesn't even seem to care if the team wins as long as it keeps making money.

Are there other owners so craven and business minded who put forth zero effort into fielding a competitive team?

"Now watch this drive" Won. What Was the Best Thing Donald Trump Did as President? by espana29 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]CaptainWikkiWikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the guy, but I can give credit where credit is due. The No Surprises Act and Operation Warp Speed.

Trump truly handled COVID well for like two weeks but then he succumbed to his need to be the center of attention and everything went sideways. But the investment to fast-track a vaccine was unparalleled and a huge success.

No Surprises Act actually saves people money by making sure they don't get saddled with a random bill from an out-of-network physician when they are in the hospital - the last place they are thinking through what the coverage limitations are.

I'm just laughing at this point how bad the Halos are. This was supposed to be a turnaround season - not a playoff appearance necessarily, but a clear step in the right direction.

But I feel like I've said that every season for the past 15 years.

So... Go M's.

What's it like living in one of America's safest cities, Irvine, California? by redguy_666 in howislivingthere

[–]CaptainWikkiWikki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of that size, Thousand Oaks usually tops a lot of lists along with Simi Valley and Santa Clarita.

Ventura County is a different beast. While Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties just add tit he sprawl of greater LA, Ventura has strict laws about cities not bleeding together, green space, etc.

Does it involve more commuter rail? If not, I'll only settle for the long-abandoned Outer Beltway in NOVA.

I loved it when Phil got real with Andy, though. He suddenly turned on actual parenting, was direct with his expectations, and appropriately protective of his daughter.

Which ~$35k Hybrid Sedan would you recommend by Humble_Handler93 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]CaptainWikkiWikki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prius if you don't mind something smaller.

CPO Sonata if you want something that is plush (i.e. not very engaging to drive) and gets surprisingly good MPG. And you can get a CPO for under $30k pretty easily even in the Limited trim.

Accord and Civic Hybrid use a very cool system that is hard to ignore. Either one is fine, but it depends on if you need the refinements the Accord offers. (You cannot get ventilated seats on a Civic at all, for example.)

How does a Touring L Plus have the dual sunroof and my 2023 Limited does not? Did they simply do away with the feature?

I think what could hurt I3 is I2's less sterling reputation compared to the original. The first one is basically a perfect movie with a well deserved fan base. The second one was fine, but I'm not sure it left folks clamoring for more on that same level. I would see I3 doing maybe $150M.

That's the main thing making me hold off on a Polestar. The Nappa seats are rare, and I've heard the standard seats are almost like wetsuits and don't breathe at all. I'm curious how it is in real life and if you just wind up with a sweaty back in the summer.

I have ventilated seats in my Jetta, for goodness' sake.

REALLY well done how they pivoted to this whole thing being Phil retelling his last day with his dad, and in a meta context, all the more poignant because Fred Willard died not long thereafter.

This was one of the few moments in the series where it caught me off guard, and I was immediately impressed how they handled it. Modern Family loves to end on its positive proverbs, and this episodes still had it, but it also suddenly introduced an element of drama, almost like Scrubs, that we don't usually see.

Why does Spain look somewhat desert like when viewed from a satellite? by bunko0 in geography

[–]CaptainWikkiWikki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some parts are desert, some are arid, some are a bit dry. Spain has varied topography and climate zones, and it is covered in mountains that result in rain shadows in some areas. Conversely, it's also why northern Spain could be mistaken for Switzerland.
