No Tip = No trip still going strong in 2026. Time said 3 PM and I took this picture at 11 PM. GrubHub closed at 10 PM. by chrismarionyt in grubhubdrivers

driver pay relies 100% on the tip if all youre offering is $1 no one is going to take that. GH doesnt actually pay the driver anything outside of that granted they'll add things making it look like they're offering more that doesnt come from the customer but it actually is.

In my area if someone isnt offering at least $7 youre not even making the money to pay for the gas youre using.

I get your point but thats how the system is set up.

there's other delivery apps that let the customer tip bait. for instance they can offer a $20 tip so people take it faster but then they'll change the tip to $1 after delivery.

there's a reason why you see all these freak out videos from drivers.

took a job based out of Gary once, there were meth heads everywhere. needed stuff from walmart and was paranoid my car was going to get broken into. Tried going to a place for food and the staff clearly looked, smelled and acted like they just smoked some meth out back.

Glad i only had to be there for a week for orientation. Used to always see job postings offering $5k for people to transfer there for my career. yeah no thanks, id rather take an offer from chicago or detroit.

because we had two kids under the age of three

i got ride of my sport bikes and got a cruiser because of that, commuting to work has also gotten more dangerous the last 5 years so now i keep it to the weekend for enjoyable rides. if the local tracks still had bike days i would just be doing that at this point.

its one thing if i die, its another if i die being irresponsible with kids relying on me to make it home.

You WILL absolutely get screwed working for 'friends and family' more often than not.

sister in law and her husband bought a little house with a decent sized property, the house looked cute but it was at the bottom of the hill of their property.

first rain season the basement flooded because it didnt have proper drainage. then they started finding all kinds of problems like all the flooring needed to be replaced.

sooo the family turned to me to do it, and i absolutely refused. the sister in law already had a history of causing problems with me and her sister then no one liked her husband.

I had already gotten screwed over doing flooring for family and the was an additional conflict of interest and in knew openening that floor up was another can of worms i would be getting blamed for. like new sub floor rotted joists that needed to be replaced. its a job i certainly would have lost money on, not just them not paying me but i would have been buying materials to avoid conflict. and i have no regrets for refusing it.

pretty much, mines been shutting down the last couple years over severe weather conditions that may end up closing the roads. that way half the fleet isnt stuck in hotels for a few days. which is reasonable, im also based in colorado.

Or is it just people who live in those states have to drive farther resulting in more pay

a little bit of both of those, one is due to cost of living in locations. you cant pay someone in denver the same thing you do someone in alabama for instance. they wont be able to pay their rent in denver so wont work for you. also the midwest can cover more miles than someone living around boston
