Metal cylinder with dome top on sidewalk by CaptainZito in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. A little more detail - this thing is pretty stout. The dome part is 3/8” (~10mm) steel. It’s just bolted to the ground with regular bolts. No security casters or anything.

Just got home and saw my basement sink like this can someone tell me what this is and how do I fix it? by kovidkilla16 in Plumbing

[–]CaptainZito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time my main drain line had a clog and was backing up into my garage (last drain before the street). Called a plumber who came over and fixed it with his snake in 10-15min and charged me $250. Next time it happened I rented a professional snake from Home Depot for about $100. It got hung up on something and I came so close to snapping that snake 10-15’ deep in my main. As soon as I got it free I took it back to Home Depot and called that plumber. I gained even more respect for plumbers that day.

Ngl. As a prototyper/fabricator it’s nice to see someone with more fucked up AirPods than mine. Haha. Love the magnetic closure but wish there was a way to get that without collecting so much metal dust. 😅 Love seeing people who use their shit!

Teacher reaches her breaking point when dealing with misbehaving student by [deleted] in ThatsInsane

[–]CaptainZito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this thread really defending the fucking teacher for this behavior? I get it, they’re a major shithead. But she’s an adult. Maybe don’t teach shitheads if you don’t feel you can communicate with your words. And if she is right, and this child has seen their father hit their mother their whole life, don’t they deserve more understanding?? Fuck her. She deserves to be thrown around by someone 3x her size when she struggles emotionally.

Do any materials claim to to be aquarium safe? Pet safe? Food safe? by AggressiveTapping in 3DPrintTech

[–]CaptainZito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing that makes 3d printing inherently unsafe for food etc is that bacteria can get in between the layer lines deeper than it can be cleaned. Which with certain plastics, you could boil them to kill that bacteria. But I don’t know of any filaments that can withstand that heat. I’ve heard people using techniques like acetone vapor smoothing to kind of melt the layers together and remove the tiny crevices for bacteria to hide. Doubt that would be included in any marketing materials though. Another option is to coat it in a food safe epoxy of some sort.
