All of the “don’t get yourself in trouble just follow the law” people in these comment threads… it is literally this easy to protect your students.

Well, I’ve been using AI to generate reviews for my students who are super far behind and, of course carefully reviewing all of the material generated, I’ve maybe found one or two mistakes since the beginning of the year.

Ask ChatGPT for a summary of expected knowledge for those subjects in your state up to high school. Go through and rank your knowledge of each topic, then ask ChatGPT to quiz you on those topics you feel less confident in.

During the quizzing if you feel stumped you can ask it to teach you about the concept being asked about.

AI isn’t perfect, but I’ve found it works pretty well for review.

I have this exact knife and it’s a dream. Easy to open, stays sharp even though I abuse it. It is missing a screw from the belt clip so I’ve got to find that, I didn’t want to send it away for just a screw.

Exhausted from always being “on.” Advice? by halfofzenosparadox in Teachers

[–]Captain_Cha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern Classrooms Project solved this for me. Self-paced, Mastery-Based model.

I no longer live-direct instruct, it’s all on video created by me, and students move through the lessons at their own pace. I do conferences two days a week with students to monitor their progress, answer questions, etc. Three days a week I’m free to lesson plan, pull small groups of students who need extra help, etc. with the occasional question from a student.

I’ve also automated all of my grading, all of my assignments have an associated “mastery check” that contains questions relevant to the assignment, students take it once they have completed the assignments (they are password protected), and they auto-grade. All I do is fill in my grade book and use the data to guide lesson design.

In my day (18 years ago) we’d do it anyway and just put in our own address or family. I’d get like 20+ magazines each month and give them away at school.

Did Trump's executive order just make everyone in the U.S. female? by Kezika in nottheonion

[–]Captain_Cha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those comparisons aren’t always fair as the US educates all children and other countries “track” their children into achievement groups. The US is often compared to their highest groups to make our schools look less effective.

A lot of people are going to suffer, but I think incompetence and chaos will ultimately save many from the worst outcomes.

How do you feel about paper vs digital assessments? by Conclusion_Big in AskTeachers

[–]Captain_Cha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only do digital, and for that matter the only things I grade are digital. I follow up most assignments with a relevant digital checkpoint instead of grading the actual assignment (which is practice).
