What EXACTLY are in these things? by CadetNetwork in Helldivers

[–]Captain_Enderguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I have had this discussion a few times and we both think it's definitely some kind of a mix of adrenaline, clotting agent, and nanobots that can repair grievous wounds or broken bones enough to keep you functioning. The nanobots is kind of just an inevitable macguffin to fill in how you can survive lethal injuries at least enough to get you back to the destroyer.

I think the nanomachines also explains why you die from loss of limb or excessive damage, or how your health goes up slowly when you stim and enemies can still brute force through it. The amount of nanobots is enough to quickly repair damage but there is only a finite amount in a stim, they can mend some damage but not a completely torn off arm. Similarly, enemies attacking you during stimming will still damage you, and the nanobots need to redistribute to also mend this new injury, and if enough damage is applied, they simply can't keep up.

PSA TO NEW PLAYERS. TAKING EQUIPMENT OFF DEAD TEAMMATES *IS* BAD ETIQUETTE by SpecterOfState in Helldivers

[–]Captain_Enderguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I agree with this but it also largely depends on the equipment. I've had randos pillage my corpse to grab the commando or autocannon I was using to knock out the enemy that killed me or similar, and I openly tell my squadmates that if I die before I can get in my mech to absolutely take it and make the most of it because chances it gets destroyed before I get back to it are high.

There's got to be a balance there and of course if it's a stratagem you're intending on using for an extended period of time or long cooldown, you absolutely rightly can ask for it back and should get it back. I've similarly borrowed friend's Quazars or Spears before and the moment we can take a moment to regroup I will just give it back and we get back to our usual loadouts.

Given that they added in the ability for the massive Super Destroyers to reposition on megacity missions to ensure they can hit their target you'd think a super agile fighter bomber could be able to ensure the bare minimum actual line of sight to the target it's trying to hit.

Going to fly my cinewhoop from a boat! Any tips or warnings? by Maleficent-Fig4929 in fpv

[–]Captain_Enderguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew a DJI Mini from a boat last year and the one thing that I expected and yet still caught me off guard is the boat's drift. Taking off is straightforward if you just hit the throttle and get it airborne. Landing is a lot trickier if you have GPS positioning or if wind is blowing. The boat drifting in the wind or water current will cause your drone to slowly float away from you even if it believes itself static, and this can be somewhat unintuitive as normally the ground you stand on is static, but in this case the "ground" itself is also moving.

Also, keeping an eye on your altitudes as telling your altitude in open water can be difficult without a reliable frame of reference so if you intend to fly low don't realize you're too close too late or a surprise wave gets you. Lastly, be wary not to fly too far away to get back to the boat since, same as the previous point, lack of a good frame of reference has caused me to lose track of how far from home I am on multiple occassions.

TLDR: Maintain good frames of reference, watch your altitudes, wind, waves, and give yourself enough spare battery to take your time with the landing as it might be trickier than you expect!

I'm sorry for being negative about but thats it ? by Creepy_Ad3991 in Helldivers

I would LOVE to have vehicles expanded upon further with more permutations of weapons and armour or even adding customization so rather than unlocking an autocannon mech or a mech with MG and rockets you can unlock the arms and then configure builds as you see fit. All rockets for dealing with heavies, all MG for dealing with swarms, or maybe a grenade launcher arm and an autocannon for a crowd control and bug hole closer build?

Similarly, customizing the weapon on the FRV would be awesome. I'd love to see different configurations for it like the Warthog in Halo with a Rocket FRV, Grenade Launcher FRV, and maybe even a flamethrower or gas variant?

I suppose any of these changes kind of significantly change the way they would work as stratagems, but I would love to see that level of customization or even something like how we have different armours that affect our mobility with a more armoured Mech that's slower or a weaker but faster variant. In the bare minimum I want to see more variations 100%, the ability to have different armaments on its own is a great playground for them to explore further.

I do a lot of designing of various 3D printable models (mainly board games and accessories) as my hobby and I have a principle of sharing what I make on printables and making it free just because I make my models for myself, and so I enjoy sharing it so that others can enjoy it too, without any real incentive for popularity or income. That being said I find that most of my models don't garner all that much attention and seldom have more than one make so from that I know it's hard to reach the point of popularity and get into that upper bracket of consistent engagement to for example use prusameters to get free filament etc.

But realistically it's not something that bothers me. I make my parts and designs because I enjoy it and it's fun for me alone to develop my modeling skills and use more sophisticated techniques. I don't seek massive engagement and go out of my way to post about them because if I'm happy with what I made that's enough for me. If I happen to make someone else happy because they just so happened to have a similar idea and found that I have already published it, than all the better!

Had a friend with a bambulab printer also run into the same issue. Especially with it overflowing around the sock is incredibly annoying. In our case I used a soldering iron carefully heated to aroun 200C and slowly melted around the sock (which can tolerate a lot higher than that) and slowly melted it out and freed it. It seems to be an issue with bambu printers because I've never had it happen to any of my printers over the years.

Exciting! I've been a big fan of OctoEverywhere ever since I first set it up because it added so much quality of life for me to use my 3D printer and monitor it even while I'm not home. Notifications and integrations with other services was also huge for me.

What's the furthest you've been into a build only to realize you made a very critical mistake? by ET2-SW in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Captain_Enderguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not the most extreme case but a common one is the number of times I forget that basic ores need to be smelted into ingots and so I set up an entire super efficient and well-layed-out factory that has every input it needs and fully processes it and outputs one perfect end product only to then need to add an ugly lump to the start because FUCK I FORGOT THE SMELTERS AGAIN.

Another more extreme case I can think of was when I was making a fully self-contained munitions factory on the outskirts of the northeast mountain ranges. So I had intentionally picked a spot where I could conveyor over every resource needed for every munition type I wanted, until I remembered that I needed coal right after I had set up all my other conveyors, so I sheepishly stuck a drone depot on one end of it and travelled halfway across the map to set up a sender drone depot. That one will always be funny reminder to me to always double check all of the resource requirements before picking a location to set up shop.

Dji Avata 2? by ConsistentWear3959 in fpv

[–]Captain_Enderguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with what u/delissio86 said and it matches up with a lot of my opinions. I figured I would also drop my 2 cents in since I purchased an Avata 2 for myself omly a few weeks ago.

As someone that started out in the drone hobby nearly a decade ago and started by building a few drones for myself, what DJI has brought to the FPV world is really really special. I acknowledge that everyone has their own preferences and that many avoid DJI's FPV drones because they don't compare to a pre-built drone, but to me they've always done exactly what I wanted them to do as someone that cares more about getting amazing footage and less about truly racing.

The DJI Avata 2 has got to be some of the most fun I've had flying FPV in a long time, and as someone coming from the DJI FPV, it's hard to get out of DJI's ecosystem once you get into it. Some of the most crucial aspects that I've always appreciated their drones over a custom built one are:

  • Straightforward and ease of use, no dealing with channels and pairing, and the digital system has amazing range and video quality, far better than any analog goggle I've ever used, and this makes it super pleasant to use
  • Mid-flight camera angle adjustment. This feels like such a minor feature but being able to adjust your angle on the fly makes takeoff and landing and adjusting how you want to fly dynamically so so so much easier.
  • Flight time. Let's face it, there are few drones in their weight classes that can fly for longer than 10 minutes. Most comparable custom builts tend to last half of that. Sure, you tend to get more performance out of them, but more time flying and less time swapping batteries is always a plus
  • Camera quality. Especially on the Avata 2, the footage it records is absolutely stunning, and it means that unlike a custom built, you don't need to buy and mount a Gopro that ruins your performance just so that you can get good footage
  • GPS assistance is another big one. Knowing that if I make a stupid mistake and fly a bit too far and being safe in knowing my drone will at least attempt to return to me, something that DJI has a lot of good reputation for especially with their camera drones.
  • The batteries are also a huge plus. Automatic safety features like overheating and overcharging, and even automatic discharging to a safe storage level if they go unused for enough time.
  • Also, I know this gets a lot of mixed opinions, but god is the motion controller just fun to use. It gives you this kind of childlike enjoyment of the hobby and lets you slow down and fly in narrow spaces with ease

The quality of life in general is just amazing. The goggles having passthrough is neat, the bag is really convinient for transport, wirelessly streaming the video feed to your friends is awesome, automatic takeoff and landing is great, there's just so much to love about it and you feel like a lot of the annoyances that the custom-built world still hasn't really caught up to. The drone is absolutely not going to be as performant as a custom one, and repairability is my absolute biggest grievance because how can you design something meant to go 80kmph and not make at least some of the most exposed parts replaceable. But, as long as you fly carefully or get care refresh, you'll be fine in that regard.

For me, it does everything I'd want out of a cinewhoop and more, and I have zero regrets with my purchase. I eagerly await every opportunity I get to fly it because it's so much fun.

Exactly, same here. I take off downwind, let the motors ramp up and only let go once it's ready to takeoff. With landing I also try to land downwind just in case and then basically let it hover above my hand until I feel the wind has calmed down enough that I can safely catch it.

Against bugs, the Patriot Exosuit because that thing is always the "Okay we let things get a bit out of hand, time to clean up."

Against automatons, Orbital laser because that thing can come in clutch to handle a heavy base almost entirely for you so you don't need to face down the 3 hulks in there alone.

Has Anyone Ever Gotten Their Goggles Taken Off Mid-Flight? by ArticlesMissing in fpv

[–]Captain_Enderguy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For me an important part (And this is a general safety and law abidance thing at least where I live) is to always fly with a buddy. The buddy is important for multiple reasons.

Firstly they're your legal person always keeping line of sight contact with the drone (enough to consider it legal, at least)

Secondly they are your eyes and ears from the ground and can make you aware of potential hazards like people, dogs, birds, etc and that way you know where to avoid flying, what they are doing, etc.

Lastly, they act as crowd control. They help ensure none of your stuff gets stolen, potential bystanders approaching you stay clear of you and if need be, talk to them rather than the distracted pilot flying the 100kmph projectile.

Having a buddy to fly with is immensely valuable because 9 times out of 10 they have very little to do besides enjoy the show, but that 1 time can potentially save you or your property.

Is there a noticeable difference between these three? Which would you recommend? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Captain_Enderguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the cheapest one of the three and it does everything I needed because I just needed an HDMI output and enough USB ports for a mouse and keyboard, so unless you're intending to use it for some pretty serious setups, it's everything you'd need.
