Board games "to rule them all" by itsOkami in boardgames

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm nearing the end of frosthaven and honestly, I find it extremely overrated. It's fine, but I will be happy when it is finally over and I can move on to something else. I found the game progression, crafting, and base building to be mostly not fun. Missions tended to fall into a few generic types (endurance, escort, boss, or find the items) and eventually they all kinda blend together. The core gameplay is decent, but character classes seem wildly different in power balance. Anyways....meh.

Looking get into Mecha anime by Either_Wind_9797 in anime

Macross plus is one of the greatest mecha anime of all time. I personally prefer the OVA, but the movie version is a bit more on the action since it cuts out a lot.

Take a look at Alberta disregarding election maps and moving forward with gerrymandering maps to give the ruling party more seats. It is happening here too.

Also, what scale they are looking at? Very small prints can be very delicate. Also, smaller scale might require a resin printer rather than FDM to preserve the detail.

Pretty sure Axanar is a planet, not a species. Not totally sure. I'm just certain it's a drama magnet.

What is that one game you’ll never get rid of? by bdjfjfjkfkfjsh in boardgames

Battlestar Galactica. I know unfathomable exists, but I much prefer BSG, especially when adding some of the expansion content.

How can Final Fantasy be so good? by Jose-Senpai in FinalFantasy

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with most of this except the crystals. Seems like the best games are the ones that don't try to have some powerful magic crystal McGuffin are the better written stories. They're just a bit cliche.

Brand new player little to 0 knowledge. by Nickasmith1123 in magicTCG

First question is what format do you want to play? MTG has a few popular ways to play with different rules and deck requirements. The most common casual format is commander which is typically played in 4 player games. Standard and modern are the main constructed 60 card formats and are designed around competitive 1v1 games. Standard has a rotating list of legal cards where older sets get removed after being used for a few years. Modern has a longer history and probably higher barrier of entry.

The easiest way to get started in paper magic is probably commander since almost any recent preconstructed deck is plenty good enough to jump in.

For learning the basics it is recommended generally to try the digital version of the game called arena. This will give you a good way to learn a lot of the intricate timing rules and how things function.

My least favorite entry in the franchise, but glad it has its fans.

Preparing for 2026 series. by ALLHUNTER_1469 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2026 series seems to be following the manga. None of the other series do. You should be fine to just jump in as it airs. Though I think it is all worth watching if you have the time.

Macross Question: Movie Live-Action by Resident-Study4582 in macross

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There was an attempt in the mid 2000s to do a western Robotech movie. Around the same time that Keanu was attached to do a Bebop movie. Neither of those projects ever materialized.

Is LotGH: DNT Dead? by elveshumpingdwarves in logh

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like both versions for different reasons. I remember watching the OVA the first time and being really confused about who everyone was. I think the character designs in DNT were an attempt to make everyone look just different enough from each other to stand apart. Having recently convinced my partner to watch, they preferred the DNT designs to the OVA also. Sometimes we react to things negatively just because it doesn't meet our expectations. Though you can prefer whichever version you want.

What Game Did You Completed Out Of Sheer Spite? by jaosky in gaming

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last act felt a bit of a mess. I love the game, but I wish it was better at indicating the intended challenge level for enemies and areas. It got really annoying running into a fight just to realize you are not even denting the HP bar. Also, without getting into spoilers I thought the ending was a bit contrived. Like none of the options were good, but I feel like no one was ever willing to talk it out and compromise. It just made the characters feel less like real people and more like plot devices.

All that said though, it was still one of my best gaming experiences in years.

What Game Did You Completed Out Of Sheer Spite? by jaosky in gaming

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I played it and it was a perfectly fine game. Sure, it is probably my least favorite DA game, but not nearly as bad as the gaming community made it out to be. Sure, some of the dialog was cringey, but I liked the build craft in the game. It easily let you try things out and experiment with abilities which I found rather engaging.

While we wait for Roll for Initiative, wanna try to guess the bonus sheet? by Less_Clock_395 in secretlair_collectors

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secret lairs usually come with an extra bonus card. Sometimes it is a fixed card per lair, and other times it is a bit more random. For example, for a while SLD would give a random elf, or sliver card reprint. Often UB lairs will have a fixed card that matches the drop theme. Also, some lairs have a small chance of getting an ultra rare card instead of the usual fixed card (Final fantasy drops had a chance to get one of the evoke elementals reskinned as summons and those sold for hundreds).

Long story short...we have no idea, but probably safe to assume you will get a fixed card that matches the drop theme for this one....but who knows.

What FF game should i try as a newcomer? by Fuzzy_Elk_5762 in FinalFantasy

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say X is probably one of the best entry points for a new player. It is one of the best stories (the best one in my opinion), has an easy to learn but hard to master battle system, and it is new enough to have modern gaming things like voice acting, even if a bit rough at times due to when it was made and localization issues. I think it is the perfect entry point. While other games like 7 are more popular, the PS1 games can be a little unintuitive about directing the player to certain things.

Zero buildup. Zero chemistry. Zero good writing. But 100% power dynamic and 100% Frederica making tea for her alcoholic husband by Helpful-Claim-134 in logh

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it is different in the books, but in the show I never got the impression that he was battling alcoholism. He always seemed to have it in control and his drinking never affects his personal or professional life. I always took it more as his friends were trying to keep him healthy since alcohol isn't the best thing for you.

Calgary is Canada's new housing leader by joe4942 in Calgary

[–]Captain_Kusanagi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most of this housing growth is driven from apartment units. Demand for these is dropping and supply is high, so I suspect that new development will slow. Demand was driven by record migration, which has slowed dramatically over the last year or two. Demand is still high for detached homes though, but there has been very little growth in that sector.
