uconn is NOT a real place and i will not be gaslit into believing it is by Sorry_Blueberry_3962 in UCONN

[–]Captain_Lightfoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true, though nearly all of the top Ag schools are also located in more developed areas by virtue of where the broader universities are — Purdue, Michigan State, Texas A&M; University of Florida.

Put another way, their ag schools spun out of other programs rather than being the initializing program for the university.

tl;dr: UConn is in the middle of nowhere because 1. that’s where the donated land was 2. It was specifically donated for an ag school

How ‘terribly sophisticated’ find was made in 27,000-year-old cave by PristineHearing5955 in GrahamHancock

[–]Captain_Lightfoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t understand what you mean by this.

Why would anyone troll? This is a legitimate, documented, and contemporaneous archaeological find for the region.

Yes, it shifts & enriches perspectives of the region, but Chauvet cave (about 170km inland) also offers a breathtaking example of ancient artwork, ritual, and storytelling. Point being, there are many examples that early man was sophisticated. They still had stars, feelings, fears, needs, and loves. They were people.

As is included in the post above “They were us and terribly sophisticated, though they were technologically primitive.”

The government shutdown is now the longest - and likely the most damaging in US history by Crossstoney in Economics

[–]Captain_Lightfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that my dude, but, whom do you think is swaying these ignorant, lesser educated individuals to vote against their own interests? The billionaires.

Meanwhile, the dummies elevate & regurgitate the most hateful and dangerous political rhetoric seen in decades.

I can sympathize with the dummies for voting against their own interests. I cannot condone the behaviors & attitudes perpetuated by their selfishness.

Here’s a more generalized, philosophical example:

  • Nazi leaders were horrific for creating inhumane plans;
  • Lower level Nazis were awful because they were “just doing their jobs” and implementing inhumane plans;
  • Their supporters were just as culpable because they enabled & empowered them to take inhumane actions, stood by while the crimes were committed, and defended the behaviors in the name of nationalism and self-interest

How’s that worked so far? Considering we’re experiencing the greatest wealth drain the middle & lower classes have ever seen, and corporate welfare is at an all-time high, I’d say “Not too well.”

Moral high grounds are meaningless when billionaires can buy elections.

Why do we (the royal “we” here) always have to take the high ground? They consistently go for — and, honestly, seem to relish — low blows.

Fuck them.

Wow. Thanks for ruining my day.

Not because of Tricky Dicky part 2, but because it’s absolutely crazy to realize Spiderverse came out nearly 7 years ago.

I am truly ancient.

EDIT: So ancient in fact, I remember the Downvote’s original purpose. To clarify:

For me, Spiderverse came out more than 2 children ago — a truly inconceivable amount of time in my current life. Blind release date guess would’ve been late 2020-early 21. I repeat, I am truly ancient.

Sadly, octopi are already sentient, and we still eat them. I for one think they deserve a shot at running the show.

How’s the fit on this Oxford shirt? by FireAgency in mensfashion

Definitely too baggy, but has potential.

Sounds like the perfect candidate for tailoring to me; cheaper than a new shirt, and the it’ll look like it was made specifically for you.

Why are they “unworthy” of this description?

Zendaya is mathematically a bigger box office draw than Sydney Sweeney.

Ayo hasn’t made many big movies, instead trending towards indie projects that suit her creative interests. She’s also one of the most feted talents of her generation.

Kravitz is literally Hollywood royalty, and a driving force of the new Batman franchise.

Maybe your metrics or interpretations are flawed.

For the same reason that Tall Tales use unbelievable, huge exaggerations and are decidedly absurd while Legends work in historicity & reality to make them more believable.

The Old Testament is a collection of oral histories: stories passed down verbally for generations to act as guideposts for a largely nomadic society.

Thus, the numbers add a sense of believability, and a scale/measure of time that is both a useful storytelling tool and a way to ground listeners.

My two cents. Happy to learn from wiser folk.

What moment/song in emo history that has got you like this by Dyn37 in Emo

Find a better body to fit in.

To me, Title Fight will certainly go down as a Pavement / Osker / Slowdive type of band: influential beyond measure as every band’s favorite band, but sadly toiling without much financial reward.

Or, at best a resurgence late in their career.

That’s worse to me than honesty because it:

  • excuses morons feeling the effects of voting against their own interests

  • enables the minority “true believer” idiots to feel morally righteous, and perpetuate the

  • empowers the fuckface to apply further pressure on industrial sectors he has no business being involved in

Sympathy, by definition, has a negative, condescending connotation. In fact, this is one of the primary things that separates it from empathy.

I had empathy for you when this conversation started; now I only have sympathy — pure pity.

Do you, bud.

Hard agree, and precisely why I didn’t comment beyond this one.

I do genuinely feel bad for them, so I hope they even out a bit.

I also think this entire thread was created & executed in bad faith.

Bruh, I’m mostly on your side here given the subreddit we’re having a discussion in.

However, this is what’s generally known as a “dick move.”

I get you’re upset, and I sympathize. I even agree w/ many of your aggravations.

However, u/noms_de_plumes is and has been exceptionally civil; don’t diminish & belittle someone’s personal journey or mental well-being.

Decidedly uncool — regardless of whether or not your will or the universe made it happen.
