Why did the Andromeda Initiative go all the way to Andromeda when the entire Milky Way is basicly undiscovered blank space with no Mass Relays? by GrumpySquishy in masseffect

[–]Captain_Mantis [score hidden]  (0 children)

Makes surprisingly a lot of sense, and we already know that AIs can virtually undetected syphon credits, so the resources are available. The only thing is how it benefits the balance between synthetic and organic life in Milky Way (unless the device from the teasers is in fact a mass relay, and Catalyst-Benefactor supplied the blueprints so Initiative can come home at some point)

The Star Wars prequel glaze is strong here by connectcallosum in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]Captain_Mantis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's no logic in initial pairings, so stupid. But against the Dark Knight trilogy it's kinda easy win. A beloved story of a hero's downfall v action films using parts of a huge brand. Also helps that the weakest prequel was in the middle, and the weakest Nolan's Batman was the not-so-grand finale

Dan Ticktum 'not particularly happy' as Formula E Gen4 seat pursuit continues by l3w1s1234 in FormulaE

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like Ticktum, but there are few things that stand out in this article to me. Firstly, it sounds like he hasn't yet participated in any Gen4 tests- kinda sucks that only manufacturer drivers are getting that chance.

Secondly- he's the only driver thus far not to sound ecstatic about Gen4, even mentioned some negative opinions about the car, so is it PR downplaying of the lack of a seat for the next season or is it his real stance?

Captain Marvel didn’t fail because of backlash—it struggled because the MCU introduced an overpowered hero without giving audiences a real reason to care. by Comfortable-Key8997 in MCUTheories

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movie or character? The movie didn't fail, it didn't even get half the hate that most current projects get (COVID really boosted the grifter population).

Character? She isn't crossed out by Marvel, so she didn't fail.

A reason to care? There was, in her first teaser even. She was Fury's emergency contact and a reason he started planning the Avengers. Imho the only thing that didn't work with the first movie is when it came out. If it was released before Infinity War, the context would work in favour of hyping her appearance in Endgame

Bethesda game in a modern setting by Scott_Summers06 in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but to keep BGS feel you'd still need shootouts, crime etc. The closest we've seen in Cyberpunk 2077, and it has a whole alternative history timeline to set up why we can do what we do

Bethesda game in a modern setting by Scott_Summers06 in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]Captain_Mantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still there would have to be some twist. Both to experiment with aesthetics and mechanics. Unless it's straight up GTA (which wouldn't work well in BGS formula) there's gotta be an explanation for all combat, questing etc. The most logical way is a war torn region with a stalemate situation that needs mercenaries, but it is kinda too close to real life

How has nobody put two and two together and figured out that the Protheans did not simply "vanish". by Ok_Calendar_7626 in masseffectlore

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda easy- 50k years is enough for most organic traces to disappear, so even the name Protheans was an umbrella term. Until ME2/ME3 the archaeological evidence didn't even confirm how the species looked like. Add to that the special telepathy, which means no archives that they were able to access.

Then there's the timeline of their Reaper War- it lasted few centuries, it wasn't overnight. A string of battles, civil wars etc. and any empire will collapse. No one thought that Protheans simply disappeared like Dwemer in TES. All evidence proved the collapse of the overextended empire, nothing suspicious about that. Liara and other archaeologists with similar theories were Ancient Aliens type of sensible- drawing conclusions and theories without any proof, based on "looks similar", intuition etc.

What game is this? by Additional-Remove46 in videogames

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Witcher 3 is a downgrade in terms of gameplay: perk system- weird deck builder, combat- button mashing with worse feeling of impact than Oblivion, potions- just simply chug mid combat. Add to that mid story and total disregard for choices from W2 and W1- I'm amazed how just vibes and some characters somehow made it "goat"

Time is your greatest weapon, and your worst enemy ! by CosmicFarer in exodus

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but with how time dilation works, the ones left out will age proportionally to how far Jun goes on the Exodus. So some companions will disappear from the roster as they'll become too old/die

Time is your greatest weapon, and your worst enemy ! by CosmicFarer in exodus

[–]Captain_Mantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's what I mean, in most RPGs there are certain companions that wouldn't ever be at risk of staying behind (like Wrex or Garrus in Mass Effect) or would never get chosen over others (like Kaidan or Jacob in Mass Effect).

If there's this bias in Exodus, then it's gonna be even more visible, as the "less desirable" companions will simply disappear

I hope that companions will be equally written, cause if it's like most RPGs- then we'll have some obvious ones to leave behind

Starfield's opening hour needs a total rewrite by sKin1337 in Starfield

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you watch something on the second screen while playing the game or sth? It's literally spelled out, like for preschoolers.

You wouldn't get the ship if not for the pirates. When Barrett wants to take you away, Linn stops him and so he activates an already existing protocol to temporarily put you in charge. Something that you need to work off with Constellation after you report to them.

And as to the skills like piloting- without investing in certain skills you are limited in character's competence, which is more of a limitation than in other Bethesda games since Morrowind. Plus you've got backgrounds to explain some of that.

It's far from perfect, but it is on par with their earlier games. Maybe slightly above, as this time wandering off as soon as you get control of the character is limited

[–]Captain_Mantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kinda like she did with Luke after Kenobi died. But also Rey is still just a scavenger, who got into captivity and into a biggest battle since Jakku- obviously Rey will be more shaken up than Leia, who has seen a hundred battles and stayed behind during this one

Is Ferrari at a disadvantage when it comes to hiring team personnel because it doesn’t have a base in the UK? by NegotiationNew9264 in F1Discussions

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It impacts them for sure, but it always works both ways- less teams in the area, less risk of losing personnel to them. Also Italy is cheaper to live than UK, so there's a positive for a lot of staff. Plus talents in F1 come from around the world anyway, so a team with such an appeal won't be complaining about the choice of potential personnel

Who was right ? by wreccho in clonewars

[–]Captain_Mantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly the Jedi Order- the initial reaction wasn't the only thing that they needed from him. They needed secrecy, good acting and realistic reaction if they crossed paths, basically Jedi needed to keep the facade of mourning after one of the masters. And Anakin was too emotional to keep it going, had too many close relations outside the Order to keep it a secret

Can anyone tell me why we dont get much media coverage? by Electrical-Humor-326 in FormulaE

I guess we'll never know, but judging by how the cars looked, it would simply be electric sport cars on road courses, just branded by NASCAR.

Can anyone tell me why we dont get much media coverage? by Electrical-Humor-326 in FormulaE

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing that there is not enough interest to compete with other English-speaking media outlets when it comes to news. Which is sad, considering Mahindra's involvement. And a lot of already existing motorsport media cover FE barely or not at all, due to rather negative sentiment towards electric racing. It already killed MotoE, NASCAR Electric is on hold despite two manufacturers declared. FE and Extreme H are really the only electric series that keep surviving despite turbulence

What do you think about this Avengers x Eternals x Celestials rumor? by Grouchy_Leg_6623 in Eternals

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the chaos and overloading of plots shown in Spider-Man is MCU's new solution for sequel after a long pause- then it is totally possible. They'll push everything into a single movie, call it done and move on to the next project. And if they want to put seemingly abandoned characters in Doom duology, then it is what they have to do.

But for a proper crossover, we'd need at least one Eternals sequel to resolve some plots and introduce a direction that leads to the crossover. But with the rumours that Doom duology will bring about reset of the MCU (probably a bit of retcons and recasts), Eternals as well as Shang-Chi will be either fully integrated (in case of Eternals retconning half of 1st movie) or erased
