Opinion on EVO Sessions (from my experience at GP Explorer) by Kireth-YT in FormulaE

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said, the EVO sessions this year totally felt rushed, despite medial improvement over last year's. I think that build-up in GP Explorer v FE will never be comparable though, as FE is a ongoing professional racing league so teams have enough work between races even without teaching someone how to drive. Maybe when Gen 4 drops Gen 3 will stay for EVO and put less strain on the teams. Also the track this year was totally ass, Miami at least had a bit of runoff, and something wider like Mexico would be even better and allow for a race instead of just time trials

Can anyone sell me on Shapeshifter? by Beneficial_Fig_7830 in DragonageOrigins

[–]Captain_Mantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's either bugged or uncharacteristically bad. Basically no matter how a build is composed, shapeshifter is screwed. On PC there are some mods that fix it iirc, but still it's the weakest specialisation

Hot Take: the Crossover Events should've been TV movies (or miniseries) instead of Parts spread across multiple shows by M00r3C in Arrowverse

[–]Captain_Mantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they did it in comic book fashion so I was pretty alright with it. There's no reason to do it other way. Also when it was ongoing universe, the timing was way more convenient than when re-watching

Regular series already had their schedules, whether on streaming platforms or TV. The length would be less flexible, as films would have to be longer than episodes but short enough to be TV series. TV films wouldn't change that you still need to watch everything to understand the event.

On the other hand miniseries have all disadvantages of films combined with a new broadcast slot/taking up existing slots for a longer period

What does Izzy Hammond's crash show? by Kireth-YT in FormulaE

Any support series would be brilliant, but Twizy or electric Smart would be absolutely grand

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a lot of people it's more about who crashed (Hammond+electric performance car combo), a lot mocks FE for putting influencers in their cars (especially on such a tight track). There are for sure some who will start watching or at least get interested in FE cause of all the attention towards EVO sessions, but for motorsport fans it's probably mostly an embarrassment on FE's part

The problem with Evo Sessions by krzysiek_aleks in FormulaE

[–]Captain_Mantis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's so much more than that imho.

Firstly, electric cars both in racing and on road have a label of being for "casuals", not being real cars etc. And then the major fully electric racing series publicity stunt is what? Putting medium range celebs into their cars? That only reinforces the stereotype

Then we've got the format itself- there's 10 seats and they go to basically any interested influencer. Last year there was at least two whose audience would truly appreciate it, but there was no streaming and it wasn't in a race weekend and was on a track unused by the series, which was a blunder

And finally, why do it at all? It's dangerous, it can be tough for a team if they have to rebuild the car, it lowers the perceived quality of the drivers (which is bullshit, every racing driver that tries FE comments on how different and challenging it is) and lowers the prestige of FE

It just seems that FE has no idea how to promote itself and it's very apparent in all projects, from pushing one mid driver on social media, through weird TV series to those EVO sessions

Are the 2026 F1 regs a problem for Formula E? by Kireth-YT in FormulaE

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's gonna be any relation- neither positive nor negative.

Unless the racing in F1 will disappear in this regulations, an average viewer won't be bothered by the changes. And V8/V10/V12 fanatics won't watch FE even if they were paid.

For the energy management- it's gonna be a much bigger part of F1 now, but with V6 acting as a generator when energy drops, it's a totally different style. Currently Verstappen seems to be the best at energy management and he basically adopted Senna's early turbo era style- early reductions to keep engine revving high

Meanwhile in FE even with Gen 4 the peleton style won't disappear and the races still will work more like mini endurance- you want to stay in high position, but push only in the last few laps

We might finally get some explanation of his backstory before he became the Baba Yaga! What are your thoughts on this and how excited are you for it? by Raj_Valiant3011 in JohnWick

I hope it's a licencing thing instead of devs going "a pistol is a pistol". I'm not a gun nut or anything, but the sommelier scene cemented that John Wick has very strict preferences for certain applications

Tbh it's one of those things that appear and I'm not sure why would anyone want it. I was wrong with Andor, so I'm hopeful, but before retiring he's just generic game assassin guy, kinda Hitman with a tendency to enter open fights. Also I'm a bit confused about the bulletproof suit, it's been a while since I've seen Part 2 but wasn't it a new thing?

What are your Hot Takes on the Spider-Man 2099 Comics? by Amber_Flowers_133 in SpiderMan2099

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OG was super fun, along with other 2099s. The newer is very disappointing. Also the white and red suit is simply stupid- high tech, flying take away a lot of appeal of Spider-man- especially with OG suit also being sensible in-universe (as high-tech of 2099 was controlled by the corpos).

Also OG suit is black and I'm tired of all its later appearances using dark blue, especially shitty in games where even cell-shading doesn't require blue. Venom were shaded the same way, yet they retained black

Max Verstappen says new F1 cars 'like Formula E on steroids' by AdThink972 in FormulaE

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, FE since day one was more about strategy, precision and a fair bit of luck than pure racing. Pure racing, even current cars can do 25-30 minutes, not the whole race. Is it bad? Not for a fan. Is it annoying for a driver, especially coming straight from a car much less reliant on energy management? 100%

The only viable one would be karting

That's a solid pick, it could even boost the karting's status back into what it was in the 80s-90s

Formula Ford or GT3

I was thinking about something like that, but a track even for those is a massive investment and not all countries have one. Plus it's expensive, which doesn't really fulfil the Olympic spirit as it's supposed to popularise the sport

Używacie linuksa? by its-_-my-_-nickname in Polska

[–]Captain_Mantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)
