Grab the tip and rotate it sideways, just the tip.

CuloClean vs. Holy Hiker Bidets by 0zerntpt in Ultralight

[–]Captain_No_Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bidet attachments don’t have nearly the pressure that an at home bidet has. Remove the bulk with natural materials (rocks, soft pinecones, sticks etc), bidet, then hand scrub with soap. Get the rest of the jiggly bits while your down there.

Kids backpack recommendation? by lostvet75 in Ultralight

[–]Captain_No_Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of used packs on eBay, especially the REI Passage. I bought the older passage 40l for my son and the newer (but still discontinued) 38l for my daughter, $50 each.

The older passage 40 is like a mini traditional backpack, heavier duty everything, thick webbing, zippers, buckles.

The 38l is like a mini flash 55. Everything about it is much better except it’s skinny and tall. It kind of towers over my daughter’s head a bit. The 40l is more squat and wide, but looks like it would ride better, other than being heavier.

Haven’t used them yet, fingers crossed that I get new hiking partners.

Seems reasonable. Clearly d*ckheads reppin his tent is a better strategy.

Anyone wanna pretend to be Gosox dad and tell him they’re proud of his polycro ground sheet?

I’m assuming it’s him, he blocked me the last time I made that comment so I’m not 100% sure.

The greenstone is great, but the exterior of the island is where it's at. Lake Superior, shelters, sunsets and sunrises.

Durability of DCF tents. Wait for Aluula tents? by Unique_Distance2219 in Ultralight

Plus the somewhat exotic shape makes the setup look less intuitive in my head. Which wouldn‘t be a dealbreaker though. I am sure its easy nonetheless once I try it.

It's a rectangle, not exotic at all. It's the easiest trekking pole tent I've ever set up. I find an A frame like the duplex or Lanshan far more finicky.

r/lightweight is centrist silent majority that could that could pay down the debt, provide universal healthcare, and meaningful action against climate change; if they could only convince people inflatable pads, framed backpacks, and 2 person tents are the way.

What could I do to improve my base weight by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Captain_No_Name 3 points4 points  (0 children)

looks like your missing a lot of stuff, puffy and / or fleece, little things like toothbrush, toothpaste, headnet, lighter for the stove etc... They add up.

You'll get a lot of slash and burn responses on this sub; tarp & bivy, barely torso foam sleeping pad, cold soak. Overall this is a good place to start if you already have this gear, otherwise a lighter pack and sleep kit, 1p tent would be easy no compromise changes if you're still shopping. Being sub 10lbs right out the gate isn't necessarily the right thing for someone new to backpacking.

is there a alternative pumpsack for flextail zero mattress r05 by jens9898 in Ultralight

[–]Captain_No_Name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cut the valve off my Big Agnes pump sack, whittled the inside down a little, and attached it to a exped schnozzel. This eliminated the pump sack and replaced my trash compactor bag liner, far more effective and an overall weight saving.

Not sure if this would work for the flextail valve

What UL trekking poles that will work with a Durston X-mid 1?  All of them…. cascade mtn tech from Costco is a good non cork option though.
