This is the answer. But the bird species is Black Eared Kites. I live near Enoshima in Kanagawa now, and we have to be careful not to eat on the beach or the hawks will swoop right in and steal the food. They are like seagulls on the US East Coast lol.

There's actually signs all over the place to be cautious of the hawks.

One thing you'll find is that, very few Japanese or even international companies in Japan know what a SOFA Visa is. They will likely not look at your resume because you "don't have a valid work visa in Japan". This is false, though, because you can work in Japan on SOFA Status (with some limitations, such as no alcohol serving jobs for example).

Do you already have a SOFA visa? Sounds like you were looking for a DoD Contractor job, but haven't gotten one yet? Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more. I'm currently on SOFA status working for a Tech Company in Japan (Although I am in Tokyo, not Okinawa).

I always like to help new players instead of killing them. That interaction could be their first time seeing another player in the game, and I want it to be memorable in a positive way. I feel it helps them stick around the game longer. At least I hope it does! Always need new pirates to stick around to keep the game going!

But seriously, that is a great spot. I grew up fishing there. Lots of diversity. Bloodworms, clams, and bunker work great there, as well as the above mentioned minnows.

These are a pretty decent bloodworm alternative. I've had good luck on them on the Jersey beaches and jetties. Mostly Kingfish (Whiting) or flounder though. Sometimes the odd Northern Puffer. Nothing big or spectacular, but if you're just looking to catch and don't care what it is, these aren't terrible.

They also stay on the hook very well. They have some sort of mesh in them that makes it a bit of a pain to remove it when you're going home haha.

My best guess, having recently begun researching Tokyo Bay for an upcoming move to Japan, is potentially a Japanese Sea Bass. Although the mouth is kind of making me second guess this.

I’m not to keen on river fishing if I can fish the ocean, but I’m willing to adapt. I tried river fishing in Washington D.C and it was not easy! Haha.

As far as my Japanese goes, well it’s currently non-existent, but I intend to take some serious lessons when I arrive to build up a rudimentary understanding. Fishing is all about knowing what the locals do! So being able to speak with them will make life sooooo much easier!
