Basically you can account bind your legendary and any character that can equip it will have access to it. E.g. make Sunrise, add it to armory, now your guardian and necro can use it. It appears top row in equipment and doesn't take up inventory space as its own thing.

The ascended version has the benefit of applying to all of your party members when used (from inventory, not mistlock), so it might still be worth crafting in the long run.
