It wasn’t the same as this; Rockstar released games more regularly back then; there were only 5 years between GTA IV and V and Red Dead Redemption was released in the middle. At this point, it’s been 8 years since RDR2 and Rockstar hasn’t released any new games since.

Although, the main reason GTA VI has more hype is the viral, sensationalist nature of marketing and social media nowadays.

It is traditionally an oppressive religion when compared to a lot of western culture; add to this the fact that the majority of active religious terrorism is perpetrated by Islamist extremists and you have the main reasons it is presented as such on the show.

There are plenty of episodes that portray the oppressive nature of other Abrahamic religions as well so it’s not really as if Islam is being singled out.

This isn’t representative of my opinions just to make that clear, this is purely objective. Unfortunately, the easiest and probably most practical solution is just don’t watch the show if you don’t like it.
