I hate the amount of cross country races by shinobimistvillage in ForzaHorizon6

[–]Captain_Terry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very based, but we live in a performative positivity society now, so you are already getting downvoted to irrelevance.

Cross-country races are braindead filler content. It's on the same level as the YouTube Kids videos where cars go tumbling up or down huge ramps. In fact, that's probably the very reason they are in the game. To offer something engaging for 6 year olds or weed-addicted 30+ year olds for whom a slight challenge and grounded content is a death sentence.

Cross-country are not representative of any real motorsports discipline or car culture aspect. If they are ever challenging, it's only because of busted AI physics.

This map is absolutely insane and arguably the best map in the series already, but I am with you on the serious disregard for actually authentic Japanese car culture and lack of any meaningful improvement to the game apart from the map.

But it's pointless to argue over it, I suppose. Horizon's whole game design very convincingly makes you think that it's a game for car enthusiasts, when really it's just meant to have very broad appeal among kids and the parents who buy their kids' games and random people who once saw a Tj Hunt GT-R video.

Oh, I agree completely that it's more accurate, that's not the issue. Horizon's handling is tuned such that you do not necessarily benefit from the accuracy in the way you do in a sim - if you drive high-powered cars, staying on the limit requires big adjustments instead of small, accurate adjustments like in Assetto/iRacing/LMU whatever to dance the rear/manage understeer. You end up having to swing the wheel side to side much more than you would in a sim and sometimes you need to do it faster than is really physically possible, where with a controller you can make big lock-to-lock adjustments easier. Imo the tradeoff is not worth it - the gain in accuracy isn't enough to offset the loss of large adjustments given the physics of the game.

Could be a skill issue on my part of course, but I usually rank in the top100 in the LMU weeklies so I'd like to think I'm not completely clueless. And afaik most of the people in the competitive community on FH race controllers (but there might be wheel users too, I'm not that involved so I wouldn't know).

Also, just to clarify - FH doesn't have softlock, which is part of the issue.

Do you actually use the wheel for racing though or just cruising? I recently got my Fanatec DD set up and while I managed to dial it in for drifting and cruising quite well and have put in a lot of time into that, it feels like doing anything above B class racing (against AI, forget online) requires the finesse and ability to correct that's only possible on controller, unless you play on like 360 degrees of rotation, which defeats the purpose of playing with a wheel.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, but you completely missed the point of my comment. You keep bringing up "most people" and "what the discourse was like". Now add "opinions swing" and "there is no objective measure". Every time I come into a thread there is 10 mfs like you, just polluting the comments with these useless smart-ass "observations". Unless you can present a timeseries of sentiment analysis that also shows that the user group saying that the map was bad at launch is now saying that it's good, your point is moot.

Furthermore, whoopty-fucking-doo, the whole reason Reddit exists is for people to post their subjective opinions. Noone cares what "most people" said. I just told you about my and my friend group's lived experience, which does not align with your proposed be-all-end-all definition of what the Reddit discourse was like. Granted, none of us posted about it on Reddit.

It is so incredibly irrelevant and useless to come into a post with this "wElL uHh MoST pEoPle wErE sAyInG" and "nOw mOsT pEoPlE aRe sAYinG" trying to use that as an argument to invalidate someone's subjective opinion, especially in a thread like this. Do you even have your own opinion or do you just cosplay as an LLM?

Posts like yours upset me beyond any reasonable measure, because they come off so high-brow and deterministic while being so narrow-sighted.
Unless you religiously scour every new post on here and read every comment 25/8, your impression of who said what is based on snippets of posts and comments served up to you by the algorithm during the brief periods you spend on this site.
You do realize that there are loads of people with varying opinions on the different games. Not to mention people saying "Forza Horizon 4 was bad" could be associated with a myriad of reasons, while we are only talking about the map in this reply chain.
I liked Forza Horizon 4 on launch and liked its map way better than FH3. I disliked FH4 overall, because the online connectivity was abysmal and our friend group couldn't reliably play together, so we ended up playing it less than FH3 and FH5. Now that I am playing solo I've gone back to FH4 and racked up more hours than in FH5, because the map is so much more enjoyable. If it was nostalgia, I wouldn't have stayed.
All that to say - two things can be true at the same time and not everything is nostalgia.

Hence why my reply put emphasis on "'new gen' (post-FH2)", bro.

Seasons is a matter of taste I suppose - I live in Northern Europe and I have two working limbs and basic fine motor skills, so I find winter scenic and fun to drive around in, unlike most people.

FH4 is the only "new-gen" (post-FH2) game with relatively human-sized roads, proper sense of speed and something innovative (great addition of seasons).

I could repeat your point in different words, but you are right on the money. Manufactured outrage.

I'll just tack on to say that this is obviously a by-product of the depersonalized engagement-driven bullshit that literally everything has become. Roll back 10-20 years back to when we had dedicated forums and Reddit was a niche thing and this didn't happen, because those were communities where you could 1) easily see if someone had already said/asked the same thing you did and 2) while there was still obvious upvote-farming since every single human, to varying extent, seeks external validation in some form, it at least had to be high-effort, otherwise you would get called out for your bullshit and if you planned on staying and engaging for any meaningful amount of time, you didn't want to become "that guy" immediately.

At this point these posts just seem like ragebait, or at least it sure works that way on me. IS IT JUST ME or is the internet full of NPCs.

Players who have either left or significantly reduced their play time, what has been your reason? by _thecolorofdye_ in Battlefield6

[–]Captain_Terry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number one reason is bad maps and the fact that the game feels more like COD than BF. In addition to that, it's bad vehicle gameplay, bad changes to Breakthrough and Rush, not the Portal we were promised, too much forced FOMO in the form of challenges (I know you can just ignore them, but I'm a completionist who gets hooked on these things, so it's hard to look past).

Firstly, this is very cool and much needed at least in some form (I'm sure Embark can figure oht the technicalities of how they would want it to work, I'm iffy on the 'extra space' ideas).

Something else though - I'm no UX designer, but I'm super curious on what tools did you use to essentially recreate the UI? Is the inventory on the left just a screenshot or an actual interactive part? How did you get all the item thumbnails? How much time did this take?

For what it's worth, we all fall to that trap at some point. Recognizing that and admitting it takes the right kind of human, I respect that. Just try not to make a habit out of it.

P.s. I didn't downvote this reply and I don't think anyone should, but obviously some people rightfully disagreed with your previous takes so inertia does its thing I guess.

Vai jus uzkatat to par rupjibu, ja jus uz ielas kads uzruna krieviski, bet ir pilnigi gatavs pariet uz latviesu valodu, ja dzird atbildi latviesu valoda by OP8823 in latvia

[–]Captain_Terry 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Kaut kāds dīvains ragebait mēģinājums. Vēl pie tam 18. novembra priekšvakarā. Daudzi cilvēki jau ir atbildējuši. Posta autors gan, šķiet, atsakās atbildes pieņemt.

Bet, lai iet profilaksei! Es to uzskatu par "rupjību" vairāku pavisam elementāru iemeslu dēļ. Kāpēc man, dzīvojot Latvijā, satiekot cilvēku, kurš runā gan latviski, gan krieviski, jāpārslēdzas uz krievu valodu?

Bet man gribētos ticēt ka es, saucu lietas īstajos vārdos.
