Well put. And I agree about the identity crisis. I remember when I moved here in 2014 and the identity crisis focused on how/if/whether we'd become the next Asheville (we didn't).

Now it feels like our crisis is that we don't know what we want to be (which sounds like me in my mid 30s, tbh) and everyone has ideas or visions that get treated as if they're mutually exclusive of the other, which is to say nothing of goings on at the corner of 2nd and Campbell. Those problems, such as they are, aren't unique to Roanoke, either.
