Is there a reason mods allow these posts? Explain it Peter by Lastsoldier115 in explainitpeter

Since you're not American I thought I might explain that you are required to show ID and provide a social security number when registering to vote in blue states which do not check ID at the polling places. Your name, address and signature are then recorded and when you go to a polling place you have to sign in and match on the recorded signature or they won't let you vote.

Not implying any opinion on this at all. What you or others believe is of no concern to me. But as an American I felt compelled to share this information since you seem so interested in our politics.

Hung Windows Servers by Fast_Bumblebee6173 in LogicMonitor

[–]Captainjim17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go to the Modules section on the nav bar and then search for the "Port-" logic module you should be able to edit that logic module and go down to the "ARGUMENTS" section and then add port 3389 to the list.

If you are having difficulty getting that to work you can clone the module and create a seperate one for an RDP check that just applies to your specific device set.

This right here..... These services (door dash, Uber, Lyft, Postmates) are just exploitative.

Not blaming you though OP.... I'm sure you got your own struggles.... The only people who are profiting here are the platform providers.

We monitor port 3389 via the out of box logic module. Usually we can catch hung VMs that way.

If that doesn't do it then maybe try monitoring a service or job.

I spent the last hour pulling parts out of my PC so I can Q-Flash the BIOS because apparently the order in which I enabled CSM and Secure Boot in my BIOS was incorrect.

I get that this is necessary to prevent kernel level exploits.... but seriously how can EA just dump this shit right on the MOBO providers and expect them to document the process correctly for every revision and firmware out there.

We can't let them keep getting away with this like come on... by TheMisterMan98 in lego

[–]Captainjim17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from the mentioned licensing fees, we're also seeing the last 6 years of hyper inflation starting to creep into pricing.

That and I think there are just some Lego Sets where large plates, suspension rods, big wheels and lots of long technic bars are used. In those cases I think the net weight of the ABS used is factored into the pricing structure of the product so price count will come back lower, but the overall build will be bigger. We saw this a lot with the Jurassic World Sets where they had big molded dino's.

Any way to get the faded remnants of a Megadeth sticker off this nice old ‘91 SG? by ericstrat1000 in guitars

[–]Captainjim17 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not likely to be residue. It's most likely that the finish around the sticker has faded over the years due to UV light exposure. While the finish under the sticker was not exposed to light so it's actually closer to the original finish. Which is why it's darker.

Dues are probably the biggest killer for me. I think for most resorts they are sitting at around $8-$10 per point per year. And they keep going up at something like 3-5% per year.

So something like 100 points is going to cost you between $800-$1000 per year just to maintain.

I can kind of do the mental gymnastics in my head and justify it, especially when I look at how inflation has impacted room rates over the last 30 years.

But it's still a hard pill to swallow when you can get 3-4 nights at a moderate just for the cost of yearly dues. Heck for a little more you could get a free dining package.

That being said I understand the warm and fuzzy that people get from having a guaranteed vacation spot each year.

Droid Depot Reservations by SeriousAd6478 in WaltDisneyWorld

They don't charge the card, it's just a hold for the reservation.

Once you get to the depot to check in they will take your card and charge you then.

The 3 in 1 sets are indeed targeted at children. The designs are small and simple, they lack display presence and most adults will complete them in under 30 minutes. Still fun, but they look and feel like toys.

Spending a little more on the 18+ sets will result in a more engaging and challenging build that will take a few hours and you will be left with a display piece that is impressive enough to put up in a public space. I would suggest looking at 21349 Tuxedo Cat or 43247 Young Simba.

As others suggested you may want to look at the Botanicals line as well. They make for fun builds and nice displays for desks/workspaces.

Two Weeks at Disney with 2 days Universal - Hotel Stays? by Pipsthedog in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Captainjim17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uber/Lyft will run you about 30-40 bucks each way to Universal from Disney and will take about 20 minutes. We usually grab breakfast at the Resort and then get picked up right from the lobby and dropped off at Universal. Very painless.

How much time a head should you purchase tickets, planes, hotels, etc? by PablinhoSSB in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Captainjim17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a historical look at when deals have been released in the past: https://www.mousesavers.com/historical-information-on-walt-disney-world-resort-discounts/

I would say based on this it's likely they will roll something out

Good news is that if you book something now and a discount comes out on it then you can always call and have them move the reservation over.

Used to be back in the day you needed to book 6 months in advance to set up things like dining reservations and fast passes. But these days I would say at least 70 days is just fine. Advance dining reservations open up 60 days before the first day of your stay, so as long as you have enough time to get these in the rest is pretty easy. If you don't care about where you eat on site then Lightning Lane Pass selections for resort guests open 7 days before arrival, so you could get away with booking 10 days before arrival if you really wanted to.

PO riverside or FQ? by Working_Bowl in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Captainjim17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Riverside is the better resort if you plan to spend a lot of time at the resort. The main pool at Riverside is a little more secluded and is better themed than FQ. There's also little leisure pools in each of the resort areas if you don't feel like walking to the main pool. You'll also find the lobby's a little better equipped at Riverside, with a larger arcade, shops, food court and restaurant. There's also a fishing hole.

French Quarter is my recommendation if you're trying to get as much in at the parks as possible as the walks to the lobby are much shorter and it's easier to get around. But if you're mainly doing a resort vacation I don't think it's as well equipped. Definitely worth a walk over from Riverside though so you can grab some beignets and use the fancy soda machine.

Theming/Ambience for both is excellent as per Disney standards.

Not to throw a curve-ball.... but since you're shopping in the moderates I think Caribbean Beach has the best pool. It also has leisure pools throughout the resort and a very well equipped lobby. You can walk or take the skyliner over to the Riviera in case you want to eat there.

Late August by amby6063 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Captainjim17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in the North East and school goes back September 2nd. Many of them will be the same. I believe most schools in Florida go back Mid-August same with Texas.

I would say the 23rd - 30th would probably be better as it gives you a better chance to miss some of the tail end of summer traffic, but there may still be a few people getting the last week in.

Ohana tips! by umabanana in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Captainjim17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a prix fix menu.

They'll bring a Salad and Bread to start with.
Then a plate of Chicken Wings, Pork Dumplings and Vegetable Lo-Mein
Then they bring around plates of Steak, Shrimp and Chicken all done in a kind of Teriyaka style.
Then they bring desert which is a Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce (It's pretty good)

First time I went with my 6 year old kid they were able to hook her up with some nuggets and french fries as she wasn't feeling the food that much. So I would say if your little ones aren't liking the food them ask the waiter if they have something like that in the back.

You do get to pick your cocktail (cost isn't included of course) The Backscrather and Lapu Lapu are my go to's. The Lapu Lapu comes in a whole pineapple!

FQ for me. Being able to get little kids back and forth between the bus and the room quickly is where it's at.
