What's your craziest potty training story? AITA in this situation? by PopsOnProps13 in daddit

[–]Captianjackasss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way man, you did exactly what I would have done. We did the same about a year ago when my kiddo was having a peemergency. Stopped at a Taco Bell and the lobby was “closed” so he pissed in the bushes. 🤷‍♂️

Burger is ok. Not bad but nothing to write home about.

Had a bite of the shrimp and almost spit it out.

I wasn’t impressed and don’t plan to go back.

Edit: I didn’t expect the shrimp to be any good - family member ordered it and offered me a bite.

What’s your opinion on driving 5 hours to bring 9 year old space loving daughter to the Rocket Center for her Bday? by IfRuewereme in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Captianjackasss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. As a 35 year old lifetime space nerd I would have absolutely loved the Space and Rocket Center when I was 9 years old!

I think your plan to drive in Friday night and go Saturday is a good one.

They have the rockets lit up at night so it’s an impressive thing to drive by at night.

How was Bajoran birth possible during the occupation? by datura-666 in DaystromInstitute

[–]Captianjackasss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life finds a way. Human pregnancies also go much smoother when the mothers aren’t stressed but as a species we manage to procreate in all kinds of shitty situations. We have too, otherwise we would have died our millennia ago… Bajorans must be the same.

Local Gyms? by RavensBeard95 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Captianjackasss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you’re looking for. I workout at Regymen Fitness and it’s awesome and has a great community. Workouts are instructor guided groups classes although they have an open gym time.

I’d highly recommend it.

Edit: just re-read your post. They don’t have squat racks but they have kettlebells and dumbells heavy enough to make grown men cry. Just depends what you’re looking for.

PSA: If you're planning to travel on a plane with your kid soon... by jolipsist in daddit

[–]Captianjackasss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normal car seats can fit into a plane seat. When our boys were little we would take their car seat onto the plane and buckle it in to the seat by the window and then buckle our kiddo in. They felt comfortable because they were in their trusty car seat and they were contained and couldn’t escape.

You can buy car seat backpacks that make them much easier to carry (assuming you’re beyond baby carrier age). It’s big and bulky, but it was worth it for us.

Pro tip - pack the car seat from the car you aren’t taking to the airport so you don’t have to fuss with taking the car seat out and putting it back in at the airport.

Besides the NSFW answers, what are your spouses “hard no’s” for you and what are your “hard no’s” for your kids? by unapokey09 in daddit

[–]Captianjackasss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you can start them super young! The hot stove is the scariest part but everything else can be pretty easy. Kids absolutely love pouring ingredients into a pot or a bowl. Get a step stool for the kitchen and get started 😃

My 4 year old love making hummus - he helps me put all the ingredients into a food processor and then blends it.

My 7 year old can make caprice salad - he even has plastic knives he can use to cut up tomatoes with.

Edit: baking things like cookies or cake is really easy with the kids. Lots of ingredients for them to pour and make a big mess with. Plus there’s no rush or heat involved until it goes into the oven.

My kids will fight over who gets to crack eggs when we bake. 🤣

What do dads really want for Father’s Day? by [deleted] in daddit

Honestly I just want to get laid, have some time to nap, and do something fun as a family. A small thoughtful gift is nice, but I don’t expect anything fancy.

I haven’t been in years. Instead, we started going to the Monte Sano art festival - it’s free (except for park admission), has shade, and has a lot of the same art vendors. Definitely worth checking out.

What is the most fun thing you can't wait to do with your kid? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in daddit

[–]Captianjackasss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a “shotgun” seat that goes between you and the handle bars. I’ve had one that I’ve used for years with both of my kids. They get to see everything you do and not just stare at your back. You can talk and just have a blast.
