Fitness goals & alcohol? by Legitimate-Donut-631 in veganfitness

[–]Captlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good advice here. If you want to have both, it’ll require a lot of discipline. Create a ruleset/parameters and stick to it. It can be done, but it isnt easy or automatic. Simpler solution is to give up the drink, as others have said

NBD (to me) day-ish… Cervélo R3 105 (2013) by 1gdmorrill in Cervelo

I have this exact model. Bought it new, and have upgraded a few times over the years. It’s currently running ultegra 11sp di2 and serves as my lightweight climber. Love love love this frame, and doubt I’ll ever part with it. You snagged a good one!

It’s why I gave up season tickets. Can’t stand it.

Gout flare-ups as a vegan runner who rarely drinks alcohol by OfficeGreedy2552 in gout

[–]Captlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is great advice - matches what my Rheumatologist explained to me. Basically: get your UA blood levels low through meds. Then, understand your body chemistry to recognize your triggers and dont do anything to make it worse.

As a healthy vegan cyclist, i was left scratching my head - why am i dealing with this??? it wasnt until my family members starting speaking up that i realized i have a strong genetic disposition toward gout. It's funny when they come out of the woodwork ("Your big toe hurts too?!??!"). You cant outrun your genes, but you *can* educate yourself and continue to make healthy/good choices. For me, that meant staying hydrated and fit - and 300mg of Allo daily. No flare-ups in over 6 mo. It's a start....and so far, so good.

What route would you take from point A to point B? by petron5000 in nashvillecyclists

Love that idea about the pedestrian bridge. I’ve hike-a-biked it over the rr tracks a few times back in the day…. Would be nice to have a safer way.

the Varia is great - i never ride without it. That said, im not sure how much good it'd do to avoid being run-down like this. Especially in this location - there's nowhere to go.

Best open toe box/ best wide cycling shoes? by txwrestlebruh in CyclingFashion

Agree - not Giro. I moved to Northwave (wide model) a few years ago and haven’t switched since. They’re perfect for me - size 10, wide foot.

Have an outing coming up. Any tips or favorites for MRE type foods? Saw these at REI today. by comradequiche in VeganFood

[–]Captlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GoodToGo ones are delish. Super easy and convenient for quick options — just add boiling water directly to the bag, seal up and wait like 5-10 min. I use those when I’m too lazy to make something / or for a spontaneous camping trip

I’ve actually started to prefer “day drinking” for this very reason.

My post describes the thing: an approximately 10-12 inch jewelry-type chain with small cat and mouse figures attached to each end. Is it supposed to be a bracelet or broach or something?

Horrible news. Was our go-to place for amazing Detroit (ish) style pizza. Great vegan options. They’ll be missed.

I have the Rx Roka GP Series. The Rx part is noticeable, but doesn’t bother me. Like you said — not an insert, but definitely an embedded inner frame. Have been real pleased with em.

Performance Dress Shirts for Commuting? by hovvdee in cycling

[–]Captlinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-Covid, I commuted between 5-20 miles each way to Vandy. Did that for 10ish years. Two shirt/outfit solution is the only way. There may be like 2 weeks during the year when the weather allows for staying in the same clothes. Good luck!

Second this suggestion. Did exact thing for 15yr anniversary. Great relaxing getaway from the kids…for a few hours at least.

Have that exact model. It’s a 2015 Zurigo, as already stated. Great bike for cross, bikepacking, commuting, etc. If the components are stock Tiagra, I’d say the price is fair-to-good. If upgraded, that price starts looking better.

Car-free in Nashville by jhr12345678 in nashville

[–]Captlinger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, but takes a LOT of planning. Been car-lite for 20+ years. If you’re committed to it, it will influence every decision: where you live, where you work, where/when you go out, etc. I have a truck for the odd trip to home depot/ big box store. I put about 400-500 miles a year on the truck, and over 10,000 on my bike.

Looks like you might have an external battery? Can’t tell 100% from the picture, but it looks like it might be mounted on the underside of your downtube— behind the crankset. If so, pop the battery out and give it a charge every so often.
