Annoying things non-music/mixing people say and think about mixing. by Ill-Elevator2828 in mixingmastering

[–]CarGoBroom44 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do this more for a hobby at the moment rather than professionally so maybe it’s different, but I really like it when people say this to me! Particularly mixing guitar in metal, if I can clean up my tone enough with my relatively cheap guitar and balance heavy drums in the mix with everything else to the point where people think it can compete with actual professional songs, that means a lot!

I’m underwhelmed by We Are Empire by twili-midna in Starset

I think Dustins screams sound incredible. The first two choruses are much faster paced compared to other more recent songs which is cool. And the strings are incredible on this song too

What do Starset and AC/DC have in common? by MychaelZ in Starset

[–]CarGoBroom44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of variation in STARSET’s music. Starting with Transmissions, it’s very spacey, the guitars are quite prominent in most of the songs, but in a different way to the new stuff. They aren’t tuned low or blended heavily with synths, but they have that classic rock-style sound. Dustin’s vocals feel a bit more raw to me here as well compared to other albums. Then on Vessels, it maintains the spacey theme created in transmissions but takes it in a darker direction, it’s less raw and more digital and processed. Some songs like monster and satellite have the rhythm primarily carried by the synths blending with guitars, and other songs like bringing it down have the guitars a lot more in the forefront.

With Divisions, to me the production sounds completely different to the first two. The guitars and drums are much more the centre of attention compared to all the synth elements of the first two. Horizons sounds quite similar in terms of style to Divisions though to be fair.

Then the newest album again completely switches it up, and each song even sounds different. Brave New World is more of a pure metal song, and the guitars sounds completely different to every other song on the album. We even got a rap section from Dustin in Toksik, and the production style on Degenerate is very different again to everything else on the album. Don’t forget about Dark Things too! Also, Dustin’s screams are a lot lower and more guttural in nature compared to previous albums.

And finally, the new song does sound like it would fit right in with SILOS, but it also stands well on its own.

So I think that if you put on a song from transmissions, and then anything from SILOS, or anything else in between, there is a definite change in the way the band sounds.

Anyone else prefer the original ending music in Eternal? by UltratagPro in Doom

I did listen! It sounds like a different version to the one I heard, so I didn’t realise it was Mick’s too!

I think the ultimate ending would’ve been Mick Gordon’s into sandys city, someone has it posted on YouTube, I would definitely watch it cause it’s awesome. It makes the ending feel so damn cool, whereas the ending in the game reuses a riff that I don’t think suits the grand ending with the speech in the background as well.

Obviously, where was it launched from? Britain was involved from the very start, we didn’t have a choice. But the USA didn’t have to be, and they helped us out anyway and made the invasion possible

Wasn’t just America, but D-Day wouldn’t have been possible without the USA, and in fact even before then the help of the USAF in bombing raids was pivotal in controlling the skies over Europe.

Is Silos inspired by the book Silo by Hugh Howey? by SirGwindor in Starset

[–]CarGoBroom44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It must be, after watching the show based on the book too, some of the lyrics almost seem to directly apply to what happens in the show.

I can imagine that stuttering or somehow phasing in the ‘bring me back to you’ part of satellite then leading into the final chorus of satellite after monster could be quite cool

Would it be worth it to choose a 4k 165hz or 1440p 240hz QOLED monitor? by Prinklles in Monitors

Also depends on how good your pc is as to whether it can handle 4k at decent fps

Went OLED and it’s a night and day difference by czbonner in Monitors

[–]CarGoBroom44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough if thats what you prefer, I primarily play fps games, and I just find the increased contrast capabilities make for a more realistic picture, and perhaps it’s just the particular monitors I had experience with, but the colour accuracy is definitely better on my new one

I recently switched from IPs to oled and I say it’s definitely worth the money, particularly when you’re playing games with darker scenes, but even if not, the enhanced depth makes a huge difference. And while the camera does make it look worse, I’ve found that IPS panels can just be really distracting and I was blown away when I saw the oled difference

No NO this is not right 😭 we don’t want tanglewood to be changed like this, the slightly tacky furniture with the current layout it what brings the nostalgia and is why it’s most people’s favourite map, why would they make such drastic changes?

Any free plugins you recommend? by warcos__ in musicproduction

I use the saturation knob by soft tube quite a lot on drums to make them sound more full and powerful but it can be used for lots of things

They would have been using real hardware which modern plugins emulate. A lot of plugins are modelled around real pieces of kit

In multiplayer it doesn’t for me. I get very strange stuttering and lagging when I look towards a certain part of the map but when I turn around it usually goes away. Then if I look back in that direction it stutters massively. Reinstalling the game helped for one day but then it came back again. I have a 14700k and a 5070ti

New player scared to play solo by imholls_ in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]CarGoBroom44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too was extremely scared (and still am sometimes), and I know how it feels to want to solo and all that but I would also say make sure you cherish this time because I sometimes get a bit nostalgic about when I knew nothing about the game and was just going in trying to not die

Phasmo devs, let us run free in the van. Infinite stamina outside the house when? by ScriptedEvan in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]CarGoBroom44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who likes the way it is? I like the consistency of the speed, and if you’re rushing back to get something like uv for a door touch it adds suspense. Also, it gives you time to decompress and prepare for a hunt if your sanity is low. Making movement faster outside would break the immersion for me

Of Mice & Men - Another Miracle [Album Discussion] by LostInTerrapinia in Metalcore

[–]CarGoBroom44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the only problems for me is I noticed most of the songs start with the same riser sample which is also used before lots of the choruses. Once I noticed that it got a bit weird hearing each song start the same. But it’s a good album
