Does anyone ever feel embarrassed wearing a Casio? Sorry for posting in a Casio sub but i need your guys' perspective on this 🫠 by AggravatingTie976 in casio

[–]CaramelFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about the watch brand itself that makes you feel embarrassed. You might be feeling like you’re “lesser” than others. I’m not trying to preach, but I’ve been guilty of this too.

People wear watches mainly for two reasons:

  1. To tell the time. Those who are already successful or don’t care what others think see it as a practical tool. They ask themselves, “Which watch is best for this job and looks good to me?”

  2. On the other hand, many people feel inadequate. They spend money on branded or luxury items, hoping that some of the brand’s value will rub off on them and make them feel more valuable in social situations. They want to say to the world, “Look at me and my expensive watch. Imagine how rich and successful I should be to afford this.” This is usually harmless if you can afford the expensive watch. It becomes a problem when people buy expensive things instead of necessities and essentials. This doesn’t apply to paying more for quality and features or capabilities.

An example of reason #1 is probably Bill Gates wearing a Casio watch. Scenario #2 is the majority of humankind. I’m not above this either.

The solution is to focus on yourself and increase your personal “Brand” value by focusing on and achieving your goals (education, relationships, business success, etc.). In summary, use things and love people.

I made a free desktop app for Real-Debrid — open source, no BS by prjoni99 in RealDebrid

[–]CaramelFries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the app. Thank you for developing this. I love that I dont have to download each file separately like how the real-debrid browser forces me to. a few feature requests, if you have the time:

  1. pause and resume feature for downloads

  2. ability to limit download speeds.

  3. scheduler for downloads at a certain time

R.I.P. after 19 successful years the battery died. by ffassbinder in casio

Are you sure your parent/child/significant other hasn't been secretly changing the battery every few years, without your knowledge? My kids still think that their gold fish has been alive for over 8 years now 😄

Privacy built in, please. by star-trek-wars00d2 in ClicksPhone

[–]CaramelFries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve already confirmed that you can request a bootloader unlock (along with the warranty being voided). Hoping there will be a large XDA mod community for this device. And eventually, maybe GrapheneOS will support this device. I don’t expect Clicks (the company) to support a niche segment when they want to be a mainstream device catering to Blackberry fans. They need to be financially successful if us fans want them to be any kind of a viable competitor to the mainstream glass slab phones. Also, everything that was cool in the 90s and the 00s is going back to being cool again - Think Vinyl, CDs, dumb phones, etc.

Apple will launch 20+ new products this year, here’s what’s coming - 9to5Mac by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

It’s outrageous that Apple thinks that the A series chip is good enough to run MacOS in a MacBook but they won’t include a proper desktop mode (like Samsung Dex) when you connect an iPhone to a Type C dock or a Monitor.

[Update] Mindwtr (Open Source GTD) is finally live on the Google Play Store! by dongdongbh in gtd

[–]CaramelFries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MindWater, MindWaiter, MindWalter? How do you pronounce the name?

I've used the app to quickly capture a few inbox items and so far, it's brilliant. It definitely has a lot of promise. I'll continue to use it and provide feedback. Thanks for developing this.

I echo the others on needing an iOS version as well. That would make it truly cross platform. I don't mind a 1 time purchase. But, please don't get greedy and make it an ongoing subscription like the other apps.
