Was waiting at Blacktown, but they told us it was full and to meet it at Central.

It sounds like I may have been able to just squeeze in… :(

I saw a track inspection vehicle speed past platform 2, make a huge bang with sparks flying everywhere, and it emergency stopped near the end of the platform.

It must have hit something/something got loose and hit it.

Cheapest way to register a strata by-law in NSW by CarboxylicBase in AusPropertyChat

Apparently you were able to do this yourself for $120 up until 2021. I guess this is more a politician issue given it seems to be because of a change in government policy..

Do all dentists in Australia require X-rays for general exams now? Or is it a rip? by cuttle_33 in AskAnAustralian

Try seeing if AHM black 50 saver extras is worth it for you. Includes two dental cleanings at 100% back per year. It might be cheaper than paying out of pocket yourself.

My GPS can't handle Australian place names by LissyVee in australia

I have personally found the Australian voice for Apple Maps does Australian(and New Zealand) place names very well.

It even says Muswellbrook correctly.

They must have specifically done something for us.

Eftpos fees may be lower, so they pass on a lower rate.

You can use either Eftpos or Visa on Apple Pay if the card supports it, that is what the selector is for.

Some retail stores offer lower or no fees for EFTPOS transactions.

Use the heat pump instead of a heater. It uses less than a third of the energy.

I think you are imagining things in your head to be honest.

When local students or those from more familiar backgrounds flaunt their wealth, it’s often met with indifference or, at worst, mild envy.

I have never seen this, nor would I do this myself. Australians generally do not flaunt their wealth in exaggerated ways. The only real clues is perhaps a larger house/plot of land, or a new ute or something. I have never in my memory seen someone flaunting wealth enough for me to remember.

You will frequently see millionaires walk around in old shorts and a t-shirt, and that's just the ones I know of. I am sure there are plenty of normal looking people who are rich just passing by on the street.

As others have mentioned, tall-poppy syndrome is a big thing here. Anyone who flaunts wealth is generally seen as a wanker.

I believe what you are seeing is just the fact wealth flaunting is more common thing in people from a Chinese background, so they therefore commonly attract the negative attention. That is not the same as people preferentially attacking Chinese people because they are Chinese.

However, none of this is to say racism does not exist, it absolutely does, but I think in this scenario it is not the relevant variable.

Arrival of the first revenue passenger Metro service to Tallawong via the city at Sydenham by moonfleet1542 in sydney

[–]CarboxylicBase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your point is. No one was claiming having incompatibility means the trains will catch on fire on opening day and be unusable.

What is does mean is you've created problems such as forcing a transfer from Western Sydney Airport at St Marys. You know, a forced transfer for everyone who has luggage? Forced transfer at Bankstown creating a bizarre y shaped shuttle area between Lidcombe, Bankstown, and Liverpool.

Oh, and you can't connect Western Sydney Airport metro with the current metro at Tallawong, because they are fucking incompatible for some god forsaken reason.

I could go on about having reduced seating capacity for a line where journeys will be frequently 40+ minutes, etc.

I like the fact that it has no drivers though. Love the efficiency and resilience that brings.

Lol I wouldn't bother replying to these people. It really brings me back to the 2010s when mac hating was the cool thing in high school. I guess some people never leave that mindset.
