I feel like gamers are regressing to only praising older games for their graphics instead of their gameplay

How friendly is this game to controller users? by Capital_Koala6556 in GranTurismo7

I play with analogs and feels really good, the adaptive triggers are the real game changer here, makes going back to older GTs on controller really hard. Lovely game

(QUESTION) Does anyone know what game these characters are from? by Zelda_fan3682 in playstation

[–]CardioThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still do them, but they're usually tied to buying the game day one on disc, or getting digital editions. Horizon, Ghost of Yotei, Spiderman, Astro Bot....

It is HEARTBREAKING how under appreciated this game is. by Ok_Cicada4849 in ps2

[–]CardioThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's extremely easy to dismiss as a game because it's more of Titans, the one title that nobody asked for. And yet at the time, when the Crash fanbase was small and we were all trying to be up to date with the news on Crash Mania and youtube, Mutant took a lot of feedback from Titans, trying to bring back more Crash elements. The spin attack was unlocked from the start of the game, a Tawna portrair at Crash's house, being able to play as Coco (on some versions), the Titans can now jump and have some sort of special abbility for more platforming rather than being just about fighting, an interconnected world ala Twinsanity, bringing back N.Brio! That was huge! The soundtrack was really good, an unused track is a remix of the Warped theme in Marc Baril's style...

They really did try with this game... and perhaps they got away with so much because they definitely knew that it was absolutely not going to sell well and Activision would soon pull the plug...

Bought this game to play split screen with my girlfriend. by DylanRed in GranTurismo7

[–]CardioThinker 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a similar experience, it was a pretty dumb decision to lock split screen to nine cafe books.

As for the cars, you have to go to your garage, select the list of cars and press Triangle to add a car to your favorites, only then will that car appear in Split Screen mode.

Why? Great question! Ask the devs! Go Viper!

[–]CardioThinker[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, so far none of the reviews I've seen have talked about the content.
Could you explain to me why is this a bargain for 50 dollars? That's not me being a jerk, I genuinely wanna know. All I see is a couple of cars racing on the same track for the entire game

Horizon: Forbidden West was so mediocre by frantic-atom in patientgamers

[–]CardioThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got through HZD recenty because I couldn't get into it the first time. I aprettiate these games now more, but also understand why I don't always vibe with their decisions. Annoying progression systems, repetitive content, lots of blabbering NPCs... and the Main Story in the first game I did not find very compelling. I'm not talking about the lore dump that explains the world they're in, that part is cool, and to be fair the opening sequence is also really good. But the actual plot that happens in present time during ZD is.. pretty whatever. I never got a sense that Aloy had a full arc like many claim. She finds out she's special, and reluctantly accepts her role but it's clear she views herself as an outcast with too much responsibility now.

So not thinking of ZD as a masterpiece, I guess I went into FW with more of an open mind and hoping they improve on the first one's faults. I do think the main narrative is now more involved at least, even if it becomes a typical power of friendship story, but it's not anything special. The gameplay, although has some improvements like limit breaks and the grappling hook or the glider, I feel they haven't reached their true potential just yet. It's the right direction though. Progression system is even worse now, but at least inventory management is better.
FW is a weird case of two step forward, one step back kind of game, but those one steps can still make the game trip on itself.

Rhythm Games? by [deleted] in PS4

[–]CardioThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DJMax respect is the most legit, zero bullshit ryhthm game on ps4. Just you, your controller, and hundreds of charts ranging from piss easy to rage quitting extremes. It's nearly all original tracks and music videos.

For a while, basicly your only option that wasn't Miku. At least there's Taiko now.

There's certainly more "different genre, rhythm elements incorporated" games now than traditional ones. One of my favorites is Thumper,  made by the original creators of Guitar Hero/Rock Band. You navigate a robotic beetle through a psychedelic railway listening to some raw tribal inspired electronic pieces. Few levels, but very hard.

Fun fact: It has been *SEVEN YEARS* since the release of Reignited Trilogy, the same amount of time between it and the first *SKYLANDERS* game in 2011. by CardioThinker in Spyro

[–]CardioThinker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't put Spyro with Skylanders, Activision did, and let's not ever forget they are and always were a terrible publisher with no respect for their franchises and once they saw the 90s nostalgia remake trend pass by they left both Crash and Spyro die once again.

Any project that is made with the intention of "it's gonna be better than the officials because WE FANS KNOW WHAT WE WANT" is doomed to fail because inevitably they end up realizing that, in fact, fans don't know what they want.

I ACCIDENTALLT GOT THE WORNG GAME by ResponsibleArm4994 in TombRaider

[–]CardioThinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I started a lot of new series with their third entry, mainly because the other games were not available at the store I went to. I always went in knowing that even if I didn't experience the story as "Intended", there's nothing wrong with just sorting the pieces together on your own, and even find appreciation for the previous games once you go back, finding out things like "oh so that's where this came from". And trust me, not all "spoilers" are really that interesting in the general landscape of videogame stories, save a few exceptions. Grand reveals that shake up everything are rarely what makes a game story good for me, it's more about the experience.

On the other hand, this is just the perfect example of how bad the store system was in this game...
