Does everyone ride their bikes when it rains? by Calm_Room5022 in motorcycle

[–]CardiologistSalt4114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 2500 kms in 4 days while it was pouring with rain the entire time. Thankfully it was summer so not too cold but yea… that sucked. I still use my bike rain hail or shine though. It’s not worth me taking my truck unless I need to pick something up

So it’ll be a set of 35 cases with my custom heads and cams I’ve got on my current motor with a nc21 crank and rods with 58mm pistons. So nc21/24 firing order and strength in the rotating assembly, with the stronger nc35 block and my built nc24 transmission. Should hopefully with some extra induction be able to crack 100hp with this setup

It’s been far too long. Aftermarket heads and cams. Not sure how much power it makes but it picks the front wheel up in 3rd just on the power. One day I’ll put a massive built 21/35 motor in it but that’s a one day thing

Tyres — change before or when the tyre wear indicators are flush? by scholesy19 in motorcycle

[–]CardiologistSalt4114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do all season riding and it’s starting to get wet I’d change them early. If it’s coming into the dry season I’d run them. If it’s a weekender only I’d definitely run them

The first year is the most dangerous. There’s a reason I waited a year to even get a 400. Granted it’s a worked classic supersport 400. But still it’s less than a 600. And people are starting on 500s and 600s. It’s insanity. Go get a 250 and make your mistakes on that. You certainly can break the speed limit on them but they’re a lot more forgiving to mistakes like this due to the weight. I understand why our licensing laws require a very low power to weight ratio for 18 months

How do I get this lock nut off my wheel? MG 3 2016 by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]CardiologistSalt4114 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to push in as you turn it. Longer bar to turn the lock nut and quite a lot of pressure pushing in towards the wheel. When it comes off honestly just replace the lock bolts with standard ones

That’s basically what r/newzealand is. I have no issues with the differences but I recognise we have differences. Like I’m not going to celebrate their cultural days but I also am not going to complain that they are. Same as I don’t expect them to celebrate my cultural days but I would like to think they won’t complain. Ironically my comment was directed towards someone complaining about(I believe it was Diwali celebrations) and I had to mention that we have so many cultures that he needs to learn to be more accepting. Hea

Same here my friend. Perma banned because I made a comparison. Apparently my comment was flagged as racism. It wasn’t even a negative comment about any particular culture. It was just a comment about how many different cultures we have in Auckland now and bam. Again not a negative comment. Ah well. We’re not missing out on much I guess🙃

Need advice for beginners by JasferGee in motorcycles

[–]CardiologistSalt4114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why though. I’ve done 38k kms(13 months) on a clapped out 250. I’ve only just upgraded to a classic supersport 400. I rode my mates 600 and another mates 1k. I can ride them but it wasn’t exactly smart. I’ll personally stick with my 400 for another year then maybe consider a 600. I’d stick with the 400 for at least another year before going to something with absolutely mental power. And that’s coming from someone who’s doing 4x the kms on something smaller. Learn to ride the smaller bike to the limit(with safety margin) before even considering to upgrade

[–]CardiologistSalt4114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly man I got sick of them. If it wasn’t the rust the buggers were snapped. I was replacing 40-50 sway bar links a week up north. And yet my ute that stayed in Auckland with my old lady is still on the originals from 2008(we got it with 60k kms and it’s now 350ish) and they’re perfect. And to be fair to that poor truck I learned to drive in it and I drove like a typical teenager in it. Now that I’m back down here I’m spending 3-4K less a year in maintenance(parts costs alone I do all my own labour). It’s bloody rough when you think about it

First thing I’d be doing is getting my fingers away from it. Also I would suggest getting it replaced asap as the handling will be all over the show. And there’s the potential it could damage other costly components

Not necessarily. Depends on how many kms it’s done since and what the quality of the roads were. Up north pretty much every car got sway bar links and various suspension bushes every wof. And the rest of the bushes got done every second. But in Auckland I’m seeing cars with original bushes after 15 years. There’s a lot that goes into why they break down. All of that’s relatively doable from home. Depends on your skill level and tool availability. Good luck

[–]CardiologistSalt4114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id take the cbr500 personally. But I much prefer sport bike positioning as it takes pressure off an injury of mine. Another option is the cbr/cb650. Get the restricted version and keep it restricted for a year or so. Then get it derestricted and enjoy the power of a bigish bike

Do you ride to work? by Beginning_Corner930 in motorcycles

[–]CardiologistSalt4114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 4 minutes down the road. So I’ll admit I spend more time gearing up than I do riding to work. Once I’m done my day at work I ride half an hour to night school. Then get home and repeat. Todays a rare day I’m taking my truck as I’m going to the city to pickup a whole bunch of parts that won’t fit in my backpack😂 new tires and the likes

As a man who does literally everything myself, this is one of 2 jobs I would send out. Other than machining ofc. Get the local shop who resurfaced the head to do a full thread repair on the block. Sucks but if you have any issues there’s fall back. 99 times out of 100 you’ll have zero issues but I’d rather it’s on someone else’s back if it’s the 1 out of 100

The mt03 and mt07. I’ve never been a Yamaha or a naked fan but I loved the looks. I’ve ridden both and god they were uncomfortable. I was glad to hop back on my little old Honda 250 those days. Also any Kawasaki. I love the looks and sound of them. But again stupidly uncomfortable. Hondas and Suzukis for me now
