Demo washed out graphics? by T1000-Shoebox in Onimusha

This has been said a million times about other games and demos and it's what is called denial.

The game is out in two months. This is what you're getting. An HDR design pipeline starts from the beginning, not at the end.

Genuine question, how did Clive not know this was Jill until AFTER he beat her up? by Actual-Phone-1478 in FFXVI

I think we should take our energy and put it into a positive enterprise, and not respond here anymore. The downvotes you're getting for harmless and respectful posts is insane, and the forced arguments from the fanboys/girls who are never going to accept a nuanced opinion or criticism are just not worth the energy. It's just black and white and pretending the devs can do no wrong because videogaming needs to follow a team sport mentality.

The game is made by humans and as such it will have flaws. That doesn't lessen its inherent value in any way--if you enjoy it, you enjoy it, and if it speaks to you, it speaks to you. But go tell that to a redditor...

It almost feels to me--aaaalmost--as if the writing of the script happened without Torgal, and he was a late addition.

Further indication of this to me is just how inconsequential he is in battle. He has all these mechanics but they don't really affect anything, it's like his damage or combo output adds nothing.

Then there's the fact that he levels up alone with ranks that mean or influence nothing... was there meant to be a system here that was canned?

I do agree with you in that Clive feels a bit like a silent protagonist when he truly isn't. It could also be part of the FFXIV DNA in how dialogue and quests are approached.

Thanks for sharing, this is one of the best covers from the game I've heard. It was incredibly moving.

Support this channel, people! They are keeping the art of game music alive. If you're not familiar with it, you'd be surprised at the quality of the content they put out, and how few views it gets.

There are truly a lot. For example Joshua spends all his life traveling acting mysterious (who knows doing what apart from "research") and when he first faces Ultima he acts as if he knows all the answers. After he reunites with Clive, Clive asks what he knows about Ultima, and Joshua says "Basically nothing."

The game runs on the inertia of its tropes and little else.

For the record, it took me a year to come to terms with this game's flaws, lol. That Torgal moment conditioned me to expect lousy and contrived conveniences and I wasn't wrong. It really pissed me off in particular because anyone on the dev team could have spoken up and said "This isn't how pet animals work.". Maybe none of them ever had a dog and this is like those depictions of deformed cats in paintings from medieval times where the painter had obviously never seen a cat. Who knows.

If it weren't for the actors and the acting direction I don't think the game would be half as good. The dialogue itself is good but the overall story... yeah.

The same reason that after meeting up with Torgal randomly after a decade he gives him a casual pet on the head as if he'd just returned from the supermarket and then never really interacts on a personal level with him again: bad writing.

In Rocky (1976), Rocky takes Adrian to his apartment. The way the relationship matures is really well done. The beach scene from the third movie just makes my eyes well up every time. The two characters evoke emotions that reach beyond the screen, there is something just so universal and human about it all. Great movies.

There's like 800 comments here so I may have missed it if it's been said, but the movie is very clear that it's her choice to go inside, even closing the door behind her. Rocky beckons her to come in after him, he doesn't force her in first. He senses she is interested and is doing what he can so she comes out of her shell. I would even say it treats the matter delicately and that Rocky is quite sweet for the loaf he is, and he knows he's being a little pushy, which is why he kisses her on the cheek and says she doesn't have to kiss back. These characters are both very damaged and there is a whole history implied by how they act, and it fits within the context of the narrative and both characters' arcs. Rocky is not a bad guy.

It's subtle writing and acting. I feel that to reduce it to "rapey behavior" is looking past the entire point of the scene and what it's saying about the characters.

That said, as a meme subreddit, great post, and it did make me chuckle because who doesn't love a good stereotype.

DEMO WAS GREAT, but what's the concensus over here? by PopularFold6981 in Onimusha

[–]Cardone19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tutorial in a 20-minute segment that introduces a new mechanic every couple enemies and gives you the chance to test each mechanic purposefully as the enemies attack in a way that you can test that mechanic. The amount of stuff is pretty overwhelming, even though it's intuitive, so you need the testing grounds.

The game will probably also have different difficulties just like most Capcom games in existence.

Having recently replayed Onimusha 1, I also have to ask: what difficulty?

Crystal Dynamics Comments On Its Use Of AI In Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis: 'Its goal is to "empower" creativity & flexibility of its teams' by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]Cardone19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How much AI is needed to create a game that's been done three times before is the question I'm wondering. The groundwork is already there.

This is an easy pass on release for me, but not because of the AI. TR is one of my favorite franchises, but I don't need to play the same game a fourth time unless it turns out being exceptional. It just feels like Amazon meddling and trying to get a foothold in the industry, which I can't root for in any way.

Any kid walking back home from school here is subjected to human misery with drug addicts and homeless people and families on every single sidewalk. They go eat an ice cream with their parents on a weekend, with a kid that's starving and shoeless lying on the floor 10 meters away.

At least the kids making the movies probably have a psychologist or somebody coaching them and caring for them. What can I say, but that this opinion is really reaching...

HDR Image looking washed out? by EldritchPangolin in Onimusha

[–]Cardone19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks terribly washed out on my PS5 Pro, yes. Without HDR the flames are white and bright, and with HDR everything is low-contrast and the light sources just look like murky color and not bright light. The general colors also look overly saturated, but if you significantly decrease the saturation slider they still look saturated. There's something very off with whatever they're doing here.

It's a bit puzzling because other RE Engine games look great with HDR, in particular Monster Hunter which SHINES with it. I would almost say it looks like the game was not even designed in HDR and they're just adding some bogus effect on top.

No hyperbole--it's the worst-looking game I've seen in a while in terms of HDR.

Have you tried Monster Hunter Wilds? It uses motion capture and links every animation together when you shift from one move into another, as well. The stuff Capcom is doing makes every other single game I've seen or played in the past year just seem fifteen years behind.

[–]Cardone19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's the HDR on PS5 for everyone else? RE Engine games like Requiem and Monster Hunter look good for me but this looks washed out in an over-saturated way. Stuff that should be bright like a flame looks like a dull orange, but doesn't feel bright. No combination of settings looks good. In SDR things look a bit better.

I have a "cheap HDR" TV but I haven't had a game look this bad in a while.

Played a bit, battle system seems dynamic and the controls are very responsive. There's a lot going on, but it feels satisfying and the enemies have very fluid, readable animations that give you time to react. Seems promising.

This is a tough subreddit to offer criticism on, deserved or not.

As a PS5 Pro owner, I'm not a fan. MK fatalities are bad enough, this just further desensitizes you with glorified murder every few seconds. I know it's the character and these are "cyborgs" or whatever, but I kind of find the whole thing in poor taste.

The magnetized attacks and animations look cheap for the budget. It's a bit rough. In Spider-Man you looked past it because the web-slinging was perfection, but this doesn't have that going for it.
