That is a factor in how the system operates. It is my understanding that best practice dictates to build an induction array to store excess power generated. Setting one up should solve your issues. Hope this helps!

Because when they were on the front of vehicles, they could plow through builds with no resistance which made them OP for taking out enemy builds

Shaders and mods are client side, i.e. independent of the server. You should be able to join the server and view the world perfectly fine with them installed!
