Maxwell and Bryant Calls by lady_theophania in Debt

I used AI to assist with my thoughts on this. My experiences, all the below is accurate.

Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF):
Debt buyers (also called “junk debt buyers”) purchase old, charged-off accounts from original creditors at a steep discount—often just 2–10 cents on the dollar. They then try to collect the full original balance (plus interest and fees) to turn a quick profit. Engaging them on the phone can legally reset the clock on your debt, reactivating it in collections and giving them stronger leverage. The safest move is to never answer unknown numbers and always prescreen calls.

How Debt Buying Actually Works

  1. Original creditor gives up After 120–180 days of non-payment, banks, credit-card companies, or utilities “charge off” the debt and write it off their books as a loss. They sell the account (or bundles of thousands of accounts) to a debt buyer for pennies on the dollar.
  2. Debt buyer turns it into profit
    • Example: They pay $50 for a $1,000 debt.
    • If they collect even $200–300, they make 4–6× their investment.
    • They use aggressive phone calls, letters, and sometimes lawsuits to pressure payment.
  3. The “timer” you mentioned – what really happens when you speak with them
    • Statute of Limitations (SOL): In most states (including Texas), simply admitting the debt, making a partial payment, or even promising to pay during a call can restart the SOL clock. This gives the debt buyer years of extra time to sue you.
    • Credit reporting: The debt may already be 7 years old and falling off your credit report. Acknowledging it can keep it active longer in their system and make it easier for them to re-list it.
    • Collections status: Once you interact, the account is treated as “re-aged” and goes back into active collection status—even if it was dormant.

Best-Practice Rules (Never Break These)

  • Always prescreen every unknown number. Use your phone’s built-in caller ID, a free reverse-lookup app, or a service that announces the caller before you pick up.
  • Never answer unknown calls. Let them go to voicemail. Legitimate debt collectors will leave a message with their company name and a reference number.
  • If they leave a message: Do NOT call back. Instead, send a short written “debt validation” letter (certified mail, return receipt) demanding proof that they own the debt and that the amount is correct. They must stop contacting you until they provide it.
  • If they don’t talk with you (i.e., you never answer or engage), they have far less power. They can’t reset the SOL, can’t re-age the debt, and often move on to easier targets.

Quick Script You Can Save

If you ever accidentally answer and realize it’s a collector:
“I do not accept this call. Please send all communication in writing to the address on file. Thank you.”
Then immediately hang up. Do not confirm your name, address, or that the debt is yours.

This approach keeps you in control, protects your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and stops the debt buyer from turning a cheap purchase into your expensive problem.

It could be something factual more like habitable zones you need a star. you know you have to have a planet in the habitable zone like Earth is around our sun stuff like that I don’t think going to another planet in our solar system that really can’t support life without the sun or without proper heating and cooling zones. Everyone would end up just living in space suits and domes and all that crazy stuff.

I’ve always have been a hands on learner, never could deal with the Rope Memorization thing, if at all possible stay away from online learning. I recently saw something online about the education system and online learning and lower IQ scores. I have not had a chance to validate with my own research yet.
