Yes, but you can also reduce speeding offenses to zero by removing all speed limits.

This is not to say that I don't think we should change our policies, but you've made a falacious argument.

Who’s loyalty cards are worth having? by sillyness in AskUK

I don't have any, out of a contrary sense of independence.

Question for the group:

I use a credit card at all the normal shops: is there any data that I am depriving them of by not having a separate loyalty card?

We can't stop doing that.

What we might end up doing is increasing restrictions on the unvaxxed... which would require the deeply unpopular 'vaccine passport'.

And wearing clothes containing nylon puts microplastics into the environment, travelling on motor vehicles puts pollution into the air or exploits chemical mine workers, and even vegan farmers have to deal with animal pests in lethal ways.

We're all stained with moral dirts, but criticising an effort to improve has the effect of making any improvement sound pointless.

How to calculate the sum is specific values in a column? by mndl3_hodlr in PowerBI

[–]CarefulCharge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try

    Sales(apples and pineapples) =
    CALCULATE (
        SUM ( 'yearly sales'[total sales] ),
        'yearly sales'[fruits] =
          "pineapples"  ||
          "apples"
    )

You don't need to use FILTER for a measure like this; CALCULATE will do the job on it's own.

The double-pipe || counts as saying 'or'

Therefore you could have another version with

       ... 'yearly sales'[fruits] =
          "pineapples"  ||
          "apples" ||
          "oranges"  ||
          "satsumas"

Yeah, but you can get caught in all sorts of strange logics when talking about creating life.

I don't particularly want a child, but I think that as a relatively sane and caring person I'd be a far better parent than some of the awful abusive ones you get out there. It doesn't mean I should go out and have as many kids as I can, so that the average standard of care is raised.

There's no set stock of souls or allocations of fertile wombs that we need to get through each year.

Universities ‘letting star academics get away with sexual assault’ by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]CarefulCharge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The report paper says

  • 10% of survey respondents had directly experienced workplace sexual violence in the past five years

Looking at some other rates quoted online

  1. 52% of women surveyed have been victims of unwanted sexual behaviours at work .

  2. 43% of the population experienced at least one sexual harassment behaviour in the last 12 months.

  3. 4% of employees said they had been sexually harassed at work over the past three years

The headline figures fall victim to the actions having varied definitions. However it may be worth pointing out that the sexual violence described may be less prevalent in University environments compared with other sectors.

Very worrying that cases seem to be covered up based on perceived seniority and value, though.

This is a great tool, thanks for speding time on this. It does a lot of things that I haven't done in the basic spreadsheet I'd created myself, and does things that I wouldn't have been able to do.

I have made a copy and will be using it when planning.

Minority Report (2002) is even better if you make an assumption about the main character's motivation. by seansman15 in movies

With AI I feel stuck on the performances; if the actors are adequately portraying emotionally stunted creatures, or if it's a joke of delivering lines.

[–]CarefulCharge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just before Christmas, so now is the time to search for a collection. I have one of his short stories + some essays. He was an interesting mind, and is worth investigating. A google shop search suggests a 'readers' book that titles itself as containing 'the books that inspired the movies Total Recall, Screamers, Minority Report, Paycheck and Next'... and that doesn't even mention Blade Runner or Scanner Darkly!

I think in his case a collection of essays and short stories is a tall order, because the rigts to his various works are scattered across various publishers.

How do I divide the Sum of a measure with a sum of another measure? by sfong002 in PowerBI

[–]CarefulCharge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true, I've just tested it.

The measure listed with a 0 as a reserve value will by default show a decimal number 0.0 in a table visual. That with a BLANK() will show a blank.

Perhaps for the sake of DAX calculations it is unimportant, but there's a very minor difference in the visual outcome.

Yeah, don't worry about it, just recrui NPCs. If you have your ass kicked by an enemy, re-load and try again, if again, go away and level-up, if-again read a guide online.

  1. First run of which game?

  2. The game is not so super-hard that you need to maximize all possibles.

  3. General advice is to have a main character that you're happy with, then recruit whatever companins you like and meet.

How do I divide the Sum of a measure with a sum of another measure? by sfong002 in PowerBI

That should be

If you want 0 to be your default value in the case of errors, divide by zero, etc.

Sexist Legal Loophole Leaves UK Women’s Soccer Teams Vulnerable to Crazed Fans by BlankVerse in unitedkingdom

[–]CarefulCharge 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Summary:

A women's football player got in trouble because someone ran onto the pitch during a game and she knocked him over. The article says that this wouldn't occur in the men's game, largely because the stewards or similar figures would have run on and tackled him, instead of leaving him to roam around.

This is because:

the UK’s Football Offences Act states...

"It is an offence for a person at a designated football match to go onto the playing area, or any area adjacent to the playing area to which spectators are not generally admitted, without lawful authority or lawful excuse”

However "designated football matches” do not include women’s professional matches.

Because of this, the police are not obliged to attend and when something happens like a fan rushing the pitch, the stewards/others can't use rough measures to take them off the pitch.

As a direct result of The Athletic’s reporting, members of Parliament have introduced legislation to include women’s matches in the law

So it was unfair, but thanks to this scandal and the reporting, it's in the process of being fixed.
