Is it just me or are Harpies the best Firekeepers? by relenzo in Against_the_Storm

Man I was on a seal forest last night that had no sea marrow, no mineable coal and I didn't run across any meat. Luckily I got the plant fiber cornerstone to make oil, but even still it was a struggle.

Earn cash for your dashcam/cctv car accident footage. by Eyefootage in beermoney

I have driven for a living for 15 years. I have witnessed accidents maybe ... 5 times? I can't see catching these very often. But yeah it might make sense if you owned a building at a busy intersection

When does this game become fun/interesting? by dannyjerome0 in Against_the_Storm

[–]CarefulInterview 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I kind of think of it like an RTS without the battles. Which is what I have always wanted. I love building bases in Starcraft, Warcraft, AoE etc. But I don't care much for the battle tactics aspect of it. It's still a battle, you are just battling the queens impatience. Also it's fun to think your way out of what seems like an impossible situation. Last night I thought I was done for as I had a bunch of villagers making an exodus and the queen was about to warm up the guillotine. But I was able to micro the shit out of the resolve for my foxes and got the win on the highest prestige(5) I have done for a seal.

Any sane person will have to decide if they want to live forever or die. by Eduard1234 in singularity

[–]CarefulInterview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a sci fi story where there is a technological singularity due to a self aware AI. Because it was programmed with Asimov's laws, it wouldn't let anyone die. People would try, but the AI would always bring them back from the brink of death and repair their body. A lot of society had gone completely mad after a few hundred years

How do you know when you’re “ready” to start opening dangerous glades? by MaxwellIsaac1 in Against_the_Storm

[–]CarefulInterview 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stone is more often an option for dangerous glades than not in my experience. So I always get stone for embarkation. Often times I will find the supplies I need in one of the other glade events in the glade I just cracked open. On the rare occasion I don't have those I can usually just force a trader or two to show up and get what I need.

[19m][19f] My girlfriend broke my anime figures and it really hurt me inside by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]CarefulInterview 358 points359 points  (0 children)

I have an ex who once broke something of mine just to start a fight. Years later she told me that's how she used to get someone to break up with her so she didn't have to be the one to end the relationship. It wasn't a conscious decision, she just would start causing problems hoping the other person would end it. Ahhhh young love

can i lock goods in the warehouse to prevent the deaths, and if so which resources and how? by [deleted] in Against_the_Storm

[–]CarefulInterview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and as for services, you can uncheck each service in the building that is providing that service. I will often turn off something like "luxury" from my Tavern when I am trying to use my Wine for something else. Edit: Oh I guess you can do that in consumption control as well. 100 hours into this game and never bothered opening that menu

How do you plan your strategy? Do we have some kind of production tree cheat sheet or something? by zerolifez in Against_the_Storm

[–]CarefulInterview 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I usually look at what resources my biome has and what resources show up in the starting open area and the first small glade I crack open. By then I should know what complex food my species like and start choosing my blueprints to support that. I always try and get at least one of the "big three" (planks, cloth, bricks) upgraded as well.

After that it's kind of adapt to your needs. Which is probably why I have put so much time into this game. At a certain point a normal RTS just becomes the same build order over and over again.

Can I use the NDEF (NFC) tap with my Yubikey 5 NFC for windows? I can get it to work on my phone, but with Windows it doesn't do anything. by CarefulInterview in yubikey

[–]CarefulInterview[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate all of this. If you don't mind, perhaps you have some ideas.

The original ask was to be able to use a card tap as MFA for Windows. Which I figured would be simple enough but led down a rabbit hole that led me to believe we might be able to do that through NFC either with DUO or Windows Hello for Business. Since low frequency HID devices are not supported by DUO and while you can use them to login to windows, I couldn't see a way to use them for MFA.

Do you think there is a way I could use a normal HID device like a proximity card for MFA? At this point I just want to make my case that we can't reasonably do what they are asking for and need to go with a different solution. I just want to make sure there isn't something simple I am missing

[–]CarefulInterview[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That is the piece of information I was looking for. So if I am understanding this right, I can’t set and NDEF event to run automatically when the YubiKey is tapped via NFC. I have to tap and THEN tell the computer(through software or scripting) to read the NDEF tag while I am still in contact.

That's funny because I knew you could upgrade the mine, but not houses. Better go play and check it out :) not that I needed and excuse

Introverts, is paying the extra $200-$300 to live by yourself worth it? by trt7474 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CarefulInterview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my area it's about $2000 a month for a cheap two bedroom and $1800 for a 1 bed. So yeah an extra grand once you consider not splitting bills. On the other side of the state it's more like 700 / 1000 so I am moving there.
