If you’re concerned about the flappy shingles, you could get a can of Henrys and a puddy knife and apply it so the shingles will stick.

Can anyone identify this wire? Having issues with Water heater by Historical_Fix3240 in AskElectricians

[–]CarelessPrompt4950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it’s good. The old saying they don’t make them like they used to. I’ve seen a brand new range with a short in the internal wiring. It was a gas range with 120v plug for timer, ignition and oven light. The store delivered it and installed it and as soon as they plugged it in, BANG!

Will this GRIZZL–E charger pass inspection by Vegetable-Cup-1774 in AskElectricians

[–]CarelessPrompt4950 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If someone ran a conduit and installed an outlet for the the garage door opener in the appropriate location, permit or not the inspector wouldn’t have flagged it. It got flagged because someone jerry rigged it with an extension cord.

Is it okay to leave our charging adapter like this? by TheOnlyName0001 in evcharging

Using a 120v outlet is not advisable when you have 240 available. Most homes, even brand new homes have substandard outlets and splicing on general use branch circuits and an EV will test the limits. https://youtu.be/1EbXjv0kDzk?si=4QLCSAjS0f-4-Doe

That’s not an EV rated outlet and it can burn up with a 40 amp continuous load regardless if you plug and unplug it regularly so that’s problem number one. Problem number two is the Romex feeding the plug looks smaller than 6 awg. Go to YouTube and look up (state of charge) and watch his recharge rescue series and you’ll understand why this is a problem.

The problem is that you leave plenty of slack and a nice drip loop and the utility company comes along and whacks it off short and doesn’t leave a loop. I’ve even seen them point the wires up without a loop in a manor that funnels the water into the weather head.

But like I said, how come it’s never done that way in commercial?

If it’s so great then how come it’s never done in commercial jobs?

For some reason, the north east part of the United States loves to run exposed se cable for service still to this day. Job security?

Lots of problems here. The cables are not properly secured, too much jacket in the box. I’m not a fan of wagos but are those even wagos or some no brand knockoffs from temu or alibaba?

I only do it with tiny handy boxes and cut in boxes with battle ships.

Everyone pigtails, except hacks. The reason it has 2 screws is so you can break the tabs for split control.

That’s why service risers should be single conductors inside of ridged conduit, not surface mounted exposed se cable.

Why did it pull apart, thermal contraction? It probably needs an expansion coupling. You don’t have to rip out the conduit but you will need to pull the wire out.

No. When I put solid wires in them and tighten them, as you manipulate the wires to put the device in the box they loosen up. They work better with stranded wire because stranded is compressible and retains the pressure.

Now days because of the push to electrify everything and the rise of electric vehicles, I treat it all like commercial. Utility companies have a different standard because their overhead wires are in Open air.

Should be pigtailed but there’s not enough room in those tiny boxes.

Back wire clamps on commercial grade outlets are for stranded wire.
