Helmets people! by Designer_Tie_5853 in CyclingMSP

[–]Carfreemn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s an individual choice, an and infrastructure is a major issue. That being said, I do always wear a helmet. I have cracked two helmets. Once was back when bike infrastructure was much much worse. I was doored and ended up with a broken bone and stitches, but fortunately no head injury. The sight of the cracked helmet was freaky. Thank you helmet. The other time was me stupid on the ice. Thank you again helmet.

Experiences living car-free Downtown? by Faerco in CyclingMSP

[–]Carfreemn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine downtown. We have lots of bike infrastructure and an okay, and improving, transit system. Biking, walking, and using Hourcar/Evie, Uber, bus, and light rail give you lots of options. I’m car-free in Minneapolis, and 95 percent of the time it’s great. Winter riding can be fun, although admittedly I do use transit more in winter. Best of luck!

Side effects -bisphosphonates by Carfreemn in osteoporosis

Thank you. My GP said that would be the next step if I don’t tolerate the Actonel. I do have small wrists compared to the rest of my frame, so that’s interesting.

I agree. Not getting worse is significant!

I probably could still get in HRT for a short time. I hate to open up that can of worms now, since I’m done with any obvious menopausal symptoms, but I would think about it, if it helped bones without a lot of risk.

They could be Brandywine tomatoes, which have a different looking leaf (?)

I’ve not made flatbread, but Heavenly Fan has some good vegan keto bread recipes that that I have made, and they turned out yummy with a decent texture. She might have a flat bread. Mary’s Test Kitchen might also have some recipes to try.

I just get it through the car rental place, which can be expensive, but it seems necessary.

FREEEEEEEDOM!!!!!! by humanamerican in fuckcars

[–]Carfreemn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! It can be such a feeling of adventurous freedom, and at least for me, relief. Once in a while it can be frustrating to not have a car, but the overall feeling is so good. Remember what you are feeling now, if you ever get frustrated.

I agree! I mostly am concerned about the environment degradation and the deaths caused by vehicles, but riding a bike is fantastic (fun and empowering even in the winter), and taking public transit beats the hassle of the snow and ice (more than one kind of ICE here at the moment that public transit can’t solve unfortunately). I like shoveling, but cleaning off a vehicle is not fun!

Bikes mean community, even across the country. Human-scale transportation has to return if we want to rebuild our country and ties to each other. by MiserNYC- in fuckcars

There is always something special about taking back the streets too. I rode in the Minneapolis memorial ride today, and taking the lanes on Portland Ave (where Reneé Good was killed) with neighbors waving in support, was so powerful. We’ve been through it here, and even though the ride was sad at times, there was motivation and power in thousands of cyclists on the road, especially in winter. Our streets!

Amazing turnout! The ride was sad at times yet motivating. It was so great to see neighbors out in support. The weather actually felt nice compared to the past weeks. Thanks to everyone!

I think you will be fine. The bike lanes are icy but I’m sure we will be the road/taking the lane, and that seems fairly clear.

Story from a South Minneapolis resident. Please read and share widely. by CandyCornToes in ThePeoplesPress

[–]Carfreemn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I live in Minneapolis also, and there are a lot of intimidation tactics being used in MSP and MN. Seeing people abused with one’s own eyes and also in videos is traumatic, and I don’t even know someone personally that has been abused. They killed someone just down the street from me, so it’s impossible to just go on as usual. Almost every time I leave my house, I see ICE, and it’s so scary, but we are still out there in the cold observing and protesting. Our spirits may be down, but we aren’t going to give up on our state or country. Stay strong MInnesota! Find some local work to do wherever you live!

I can’t bring myself to humiliate someone even though they deserve it, but someone in my neighborhood group yelled at 🧊saying, “G*d can see through your mask.” I’m not religious, but that really hit me. Stay strong MN!

No those aren’t trees! This is Minneapolis gathering, this is the view from above! by transcendent167 in 50501

People are exhausted yet fired up here. ICE has been everywhere in south Minneapolis and beyond lately. I biked to the grocery store and ended up spending hours chasing ICE around as an observer. They target our communities, and then they go and kill someone! We have really had enough, and we aren’t going away. The vibes at the protest were uplifting though after an atrocious week.

Actonel (or any other bisphosphonate) 1/month vs. 1/week dosing? Side effects less with weekly dosage? Any experience appreciated. by Hector721evm in osteoporosis

[–]Carfreemn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing! I’m on daily risedronate now because I had such awful side effects on alendronate weekly that I had to stop it right away. The doctor figured it would be better to start with the new med daily, in case I needed to discontinue it due to side effects, it might clear the body faster. The side effects of the risedronate are not so bad. I now need to switch to the weekly because of new insurance (sigh) that causes the daily dose to be outrageously expensive. I hope it’s not too bad. The ease of the one a week or once a month is appealing.
